Cold? What happened?

I recently took a long drive somewhere. My cue was in the backseat, not in the trunk. I never leave it in the car, the cue goes with me wherever I go.

When I get to the pool room, and I take my cue out, I can feel and see an indentation in the shaft. It's a 4-5 inch line, almost like a ding, starting from the joint collar going up (It's inside of the finish part of the shaft also). I guess the cold did it. But, can somebody tell me what exactly happened?

How do I get it out, just a cleaning?
I wont' be able to get it out of the finish part without refinishing the shaft right?

Thanks
Mike

I know its extremely cold, but I would think it would be the same as taking the cue on the airplane.

I got a shaft for repair some time ago with the same type of indent along the shaft. It looked like something was dropped on the shaft and the owner said he had no idea of how it happened.

I was able to take the dent out with a steam gun.

Maybe I was just lucky but the entire dent popped. If it was some unknown phenomena that cold can make a certain piece of wood
indent like that, then heat popped it right back to normal. Worth a try and nothing to lose.
