I just insured my cue and case collection with them:

http://www.collectinsure.com/faqgen.htm

I just filled out a form and faxed it in - the policy, which is underwritten by the Hartford Group, was issued immediately and mailed to me. No appraisal was required.

Since they specialize in collections, their policies are geared toward the casual collector. I could have added it onto my homeowners with Allstate (at cost), but this policy is specialized, so I liked it better.

The maximum for any one item is $5,000 unless arranged for specially. The general policy covers a variety of mishaps including the usual fire and theft, but it basically covers most other forms of damage or loss to a collection. I was surprised at how few "exclusions" there were. It also covers some travel and shipping damage, and "Collectible Exhibition".

Prices range from $10,000 in coverage for $40 annually to $50,000 coverage fo as low as $186.

Anyway, hopefully I'll never know how their claims process is, but their sales and customer service is excellent. Should you have any questions their number is toll free (888) 837-9537.

To tag on- I deal with The Hartford often, as required by my workday. They are my best service provider- thorough, responsive and complete.

Hi Chris:

Sounds like a sweet deal. I have had my SUV trashed twice through no fault of my own (once a lady lost control on the freeway and came sideways into me; the other a girl lost control and ran into my parked vehicle). The Hartford claims process was a slow moving semi-nightmare but they came through and covered everything in the end. The only thing that saved me was I kept very, very thorough notes of every conversation. They tried denying parts of my claim many times and switched me to about a dozen different people, failed to return calls, denied responsibility, told me all the reasons why I wasn't covered for things, etc. etc. In the end I forced them to do the right thing and keep all agreements.

If I hadn't had everything perfectly documented I would have gotten screwed.

I still insure with them because I figure they are probably as good as any other insurer but my warning is to make sure you have everything very clearly documented.

It does sound like a great deal...better than what my insurance company was going to offer me with a rider.

But Wayne, in your case I'd say to forget it. You can just replace your one and only Cue-Tec cheaper than paying the premium on a policy like this.
(Would they consider a CueTec a collectible?). :p :D LOL....gotcha

That reminds me of when I first started playing about 10 years ago, I figured after a couple of months that I would splurge and buy a two-piece cue instead of using house cues. I found a nice $80 cue at a store and played with for about a month. At a tournament I asked one of the better players what he thought of the cue. He hit a couple of shots and then told me "To put it nicely, it is a piece of shit". Shortly thereafter I bought my first custom cue for a thousand which I still have, the cue is beautiful but the shafts weren't so I had Ernie at Ginacue make my a couple of snooker shafts for it, unfortunately all the snooker tables disappeared.

I now play with a one of a kind Tad. I also own an expensive A&E, two Schons (I just sold 2 others I had) plus the aforementioned original custom cue.

I don't know what CueTec is DM is that the one you play with when you are in your HighHeels (does it have a hook in it to hang your purse on when you are breaking)?

Don't joke about that. I remember those two cross dressing old guys came in and played pretty good in their dresses and high hills, wigs, big boobs and red lipstick.

Yuck!

Poor David from Sweden had to play one in a tournament - he was way better but and he couldn't make a ball because he was so disgusted. I had nightmares about it afterward - those shaved hairy legs with the stubble. Gross.

I'm doing digital photos of each cue, keeping receipts and comparable sales/auctions.

I like these specialized policies, Wayne. Listen to this:

- In the event of a dispute on the claim value, each party hires a "competent" independent appraiser, and the two appraisers pick an umpire. The appraisers separately set the amount of the loss. Then they compare notes. If they come to an agreement, they decide the amount the insurance pays. If they do not agree, the umpire is brought in. Any two of the three in agreement can determine the amount of the loss.

Wild, huh?

They have been in a number of tournaments I have played in but I have only had to play Loren a couple of times, the other scarier looking one I have managed to avoid in the draws. John Bryant had to play her/him and he is a stickler for cleanliness and he was having a hard time deciding whether or not to shake hands after the match, it was a little extreme but kind of funny to watch. There is a third one too that is also older and a little scary looking.

Loren is quite talented as a player and played in a big Vegas ladies tournament and finished in the money.

I wonder what would happen if someone like McCready or Strickland decided to go that route (scary picture), how would the WPA handle that one?

Have any pics of the Tad and A&E? A&E can put out some beauties.

CueTecs are GREAT to smack someone over the head with when they're trying to steal your purse. You need to get one.

.

Thanks!!! I've been trying to get insurance for my collection for so long and All-State could never give me a straight answer.

I will try the link you provided!

I have a very expensive collection. My agent tells me with authentication, they are all covered under my homeowners. He said don't call them collectible, just simply pool cues. My carrier, Erie Insurance.
