Hey there guys! Its my first post so try to take it easy on me. I was just wondering if any of you guys had a Billiards Club at the college/university you went to. I'm trying to start one at Clemson University in South Carolina and I want some advice on how I should run it. I'm going to try to get a discount on table time for members but can anyone think of anything else?

Thanks,
Mark Szelistowski

See http://infohost.nmt.edu/~billiard/ for one example.

If you get some pretty serious players in your club, there is an annual collegiate championship organized by the ACU-I starting with local tournaments and going on to regionals and an international championship. See: http://www.acui.org/Acui/Programs/Rec/regional.cfm

Dear Mark,

I set up the Illini Billiards Club (at the Univ of IL) myself from scratch more than a year back with a friend, so I understand the headache you are going through. I will be more than willing to give you some advice. If you wish, you can send me an email and tell me your aims, dreams, constraints, manpower availabilities etc and I will try and help you.

I would say the most popular aspect of our club is the discounted table time, followed by the league, and then by participation in ACUI regional qualifier. The website for the club is: http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~bclub/. I would be happy to put you in touch with our president if you would like.

We didn't have a club exactly, but my college union had 3 Brunswick GC, which we could reserve for 1/2 hour by signing for. It was free back in those days (1967). That was where first fell in love with pool. Of course, it was only available to students.

Bob...The "serious" nature of players has nothing to do with ACUI. It has everything to do with whether or not the school chooses to subscribe to the ACUI. There are many schools with lots of players, but for various reasons the schools choose not to be ACUI members. I think that's a shame, but it is reality, nonetheless.
