I'll say this, I'd put my ex-Joss cue up against ANY cue.....and I did!
about 15 years back I was working the counter and playing in our annual 14.1 tourney. A few good players were there.....Hopkins, Sigel, Rempe, Barouti, Maidoff etc.
Between rounds Lou Johnson wanted to hit some balls with my Black Boar, and my Joss, I said only if I get to hit balls with your Bushka!!! No probs and we switched. To me the butt of the Bushka was fat, but Lou ordered it that way. Along comes Sigel, Jack Colovito, and Hopkins and we start jawing about cues. I hit a few balls with Allens Coster (very sweet!), but didn't hit with Mikes Joss. They all agreed my plain old 4 pointer rosewood Boar had the best hit and the Joss was super solid....then stupid me sold the Boar to a guy from South Philly Billiards.
I didn't bother to ask to hit balls with Jacks cue.....

I have had a few of them through the years, actually had one that was made for Nick Varner at one time, I think I bought that one from Pete Horn, who knows where that is now, wished I still had it in this day and time being it was his. But again, I think you are reflecting back to when Dan actually built his cues by hand. Not the same thing as the cues Joss was making during the time of this movie and now.

wow - lots o fighting over not much. joss makes good cues. imo used to make better ones way back (mine was from 2001 or 02 and i didn't think it was all that special). i don't care what tourneys what pro won using what cue. they play with what they feel comfortable with or are paid to use (emphasize that paid to use when a production cue company like joss or meucci of the 80's comes into play). bushka's don't seem any more special than rambow or paradise or szambotti. again just my opinion but, bushkas get a lot of attention because of that movie. if eddie gave vince a rambow, people would be sh*tting all over the floor for those (i just saw one for 1500 bucks - not high compared to the 5000 to 20000 i've balabushkas go for). and as far as someone being able to take down cash with a joss.......there's a few guys around here that no one knows, but they'll clean more than a few pockets with house cues. hell my meucci original european series has paid for itself ten times over, so who cares. and by the way i think the original point of the post that started the agument was that there were other cues that would have been better representations of bushka over the joss. and there are. i think richard black or barry szambotti - oh and don't forget pete tascarella who is still using george's original equipment - could have made something closer in look, style, crafstmanship and authenticity.
The case I was talking about was the one from The color of money film, not The Hustler. We used to see them all the time in the pool room, They were sold by National billiard co. I think, and they were pretty cheap and offered little protection. That was all I was saying. There was a goob that used to come in with his kindling (national pool cue) in his felt covered National case that kept falling open when he carried by the handle. Now this alone does not make him a goob, what does is the fact he kept on telling me how cheaply made my Joss cue and it's George case, I had back then, wasPushout said:

flyvirginiaguy...You're WAY off here. Bill and Dan split the sheets in the late 60's...and never made cues together again (really, they never made cues together, even when they worked in the same shop).

I'd think that the people at Joss would have known what a typical Balabushka looks like. I wonder if TCOM's production crew had a hand in the design (assuming that cue wasn't already in Joss' catalog). The movie was very 80's, and maybe they didn't think an original Balabushka had the look they were going for.

The second cue from the left is the N-7 COM Anniversary cue. The cue on the end is a 60" COM copy without the point inlay. I believe the only differance between the second one and the origional is the butt, per Dan Janes.
