Color of Money match 2 - who'd you like to see in it?

I recently finished watching the color of money match - race to 120 between Efren and Earl. Just amazing pool from start to finish! That's the thing that really impressed me - how they played at such a high level throughout the entire match. Some of the most disgusting ridiculous outs I've ever seen.

If the IPT or someone else was to sponsor a 2nd match like this - who'd you like to see playing...and what format - e.g. race to 100 9-ball and race to 20 1-pocket, etc.?

Race to 100 9-ball : Alex vs. Corey

Race to 25 one pocket : Efren vs. Cliff

Race to 50 8-ball: Efren vs. Johnny Archer

Race to 2500 points in straight pool : Thorsten vs. Thomas Engert

Marathon match (at least 2 weeks) race to 100 9-ball: Danny Basavich vs. Grady Mathews

Sprint match (at least 2 hours) race to 100 9-ball: Luc Salvas vs. Tony Watson

LOL

Efren and Earl did play Color of Money II right? I just don´t know what kind of race it was. If I had to choose two players now, regardless of which game they play, I´d choose Efren and Alex.

I'd put up $1000 and invite up to 9 others to put up $1000 each to have some combination of Keith, Efren, or Corey play each other, race to 50 9-ball at my house. Somebody would have to tape it. That would potentially be $10,000 and it could be split $7k winner, $3k loser (given that 9 other people pay), or however the combatants agree to split. 9 other spectators and I would get one hell of a show!

9 ball- Busta vs Marlon
8 ball- Busta vs Efren
One hole- Efren vs Grady
Straight Pool- Nobody plays straight pool anymore.

Rotation - Reyes vs. Alcano
9ball - Pagulayan vs. Orcollo
8ball - Reyes vs. Varner
Straight pool - Hohmann vs. Engert
One pocket - Incardona vs. Reyes (left-handed)

I'd like to see Manalo vs Efren in 9b, 8b, and 1h and make it a couple of weeks long. Race to 100 9b, race to 100 8b and a race to 30 1h.

I'd like to see a super-team matchup between USA/EUROPE and ASIA/PHILLIPINES, kinda like a super-mosconi cup but with every game and female events too. There would be 13 members per team... First team to win 7 matches wins. Each game gets one competitor except for mens 9ball.... It would take a lot of sponsers, but you might be able to swing a $1 million for the winning team, split amongst them equally.
Mens Events:
9-Ball- 3 People per team- Races to 50
8-Ball- Race to 25
Straight Pool- Race to 2000
1 Pocket- Race to 15
Sudden Death 7 Ball- Race to 50
9 Ball Banks- Race to 15
Rotation- Race to 15
Speed Pool 9Ball- 10 second shot clock after all balls on the table have come to a stop.- Race to 30
Womens Events:
9 Ball- Race to 50
8 Ball- Race to 25
1 Pocket- Race to 15

Team 1: USA/Europe
Johnny Archer
Rodney Morris
Corey Deuel
Kieth McCready
Niels Feijen
Jason Miller
Thorsten Hohmann
Mika Immonen
Cliff Joyner
Earl Strickland
Allison Fisher
Karen Corr
Jeanette Lee

Team 2: Asia/Phillipines
Efren Reyes
Alex Pagualayan
Marlon Manalo
Wu Chia-Ching
Francisco Bustamante
Santos Sambajon
Fong Pang-Chao
Dennis Orcullo
Jose Parica
Po Cheng Kuo
Xioting Pan
Gao Young Kim
Jennifer Chen

MENS:
9Ball- Johnny Archer vs. Alex Pagualayan
9Ball- Earl Strickland vs. Wu Chia Ching
9Ball- Rodney Morris vs. Fong Pang-Chao
8Ball- Mika Immonen vs. Dennis Orcullo
Straight- Thorsten Hohmann vs. Marlon Manalo
1 Pocket: Cliff Joyner vs. Efren Reyes
7Ball- Corey Deuel vs. Santos Sambajon
Banks- Jason Miller vs. Jose Parica
Rotation- Niels Feijen vs. Po Cheng Kuo
Speed- Kieth McCready vs. Francsico Bustamante
Womens-
9Ball- Allison Fisher vs. Xiaoting Pan
8Ball- Karen Corr vs. Jennifer Chen
1Pocket- Jeanette Lee vs. Ga Young Kim

Now how friggin sweet would that be to watch.

Well, as long as we're dreaming, my "color of Money" event covers seven disciplines within cuesports. And the matchups are:

Nine Ball: Thorsten Hohmann vs Fong Pang Chao
Eight Ball: Efren Reyes vs Marlon Manalo
Straight Pool: Thorsten Hohmann vs Thomas Engert
One Pocket: Efren Reyes vs Scott Frost
Bank Pool: Jason Miller vs Glen Rogers
Three Cushion:Torbjorn Blomdahl vs Dick Jaspers
Snooker: John Higgins vs Ronnie O'Sullivan

I think if an AZB poll were taken of who is the best current all-around player (9-ball, 8-ball, 1P, 14.1, and banks...I don't know if rotation is a viable game here), Efren would probably win easily. I thought so too, but after reading Jay Helfert's post, in another thread, he convinced me that Jose Parica is "the man". Very few people in the pool world have the level of knowledge of Jay Helfert, and if he says Parica is the best all-around player, and he really KNOWS these guys, I gotta believe. Anyway, I would like to see Efren and Jose play long matches in all 5 major pool disciplines and see what happens. I know I'm gonna get jumped on for excluding people, so, as a preemptive strike, maybe add Alex and 1 other player and have an old Johnston City round robin affair. I think the side action and video sales would be pretty good. Have it in Vegas, get one of the online poker rooms to set up OTB for the matches (their payoff is it gets new people in their site), and you've got the "Duel in the Desert". Alternative match: Allison Fisher Vs Mike Sigel in a modern day recreation of the Bobby Riggs/Billy Jean King tennis match (which gave tennis a monster boost). If all else fails, how about Earthquake vs Tom Cruise (maybe we could latch on to some of that Hollywood $ in side action).

As someone already mentioned there already has been a C.O.M 1 and 2.

I don't care which two players you paired together nothing could rival the COM #1 (race to 120)match between Earl Strickland and Efren Reyes.
This is an alltime classic match that will be nearly impossible to top.

- First of all this match featured (arguablly) the two best two nine ball players of all time. There aren't many who have won more tourneys or money in 9 ball than these two.

- Top level nine ball at it's highest quality. A great great match at an incredibly close final score of 120-117. The legendary come back of Efren Reyes who was seemingly down and out by the sheer power/ brilliance of Earl Strickland. If you ever want the word "Heart" defined, just watch and marvel at the comeback of Efren Reyes. There has never ever been a better nine ball match than this one.

- A classic confrontation between pools most loved and favourite player and pools (arguably) most hated. The calm friendly demeanor of Reyes vs. The Bombastic Strickland. This match had charisma.

-The contrast between the worlds(once again arguably) greatest shotmaker and power pool player vs the alltime smartest finnesse player. To watch Reyes hang in there with intellegence, finnesse and heart when Earl was just killing him with a superior break was something to behold. Then on the last day Reyes miraculously found a break shot.

-To watch Earl jump with his own cue and make a cross bank and then run the table. And watch Reyes escape time and time again from difficult hooks. The tremendously difficult, compilcated runouts, made to look easy will astound the viewer time and time again.

-Earl and Efren were younger and in their prime when this match took place. Earl credits Efren as being the best ever, Efren credits Earl as the only player he has ever feared. It doesn't get any better than this.Add the big time cash $100,000 and gorgeous women in a clasy venue, this match will be hard to top.

In summary:

I can't pick two players who can rival this match or even come close. It's like comparing the pool movie "The Hustler" to all the pool movies that have followed. This was a classic match!
JMO, RJ

ps. If there was to be a draw back, I have heard better commentary on other matches.Sid Wadell anyone?::eek: :D
