Mind4Pool,

I've never been to Toronto, but I'm hoping that my travels will bring me there some day. If I'm in your 'hood I'll make sure to post it!

All the best,

Jenn

Toronto is an awesome city, I had tons of fun when I was there. Not much in terms of big pool tournaments but lot's of good players nonetheless, I would definitely recomend going if you ever have the chance, you won't regret it.

But it was 1 of the city which were affected badly with SARS last 2 years

There have been no new cases of SARS in Toronto since June 12, 2003, so unless Jenn is playing to travel to Toronto via time machine, she should be pretty safe. What are you doing in Singapore if you're still worried about SARS? You had a case there in Sept. 03.

That was pretty funny! I'd love to see both Toronto and Singapore. I live in New York...there isn't much that scares me.

Your right Jennifer,if your from NY then you should fear nothing and noone, you have to for survivial on and off the table.:D

Whoa! hold the phone(yes I know there is no phone to hold).

I've seen a profile of Barreta and according to the bio she is not a native new yorker. And calling her a new yorker is disrespectful to those of us that have been born and raised here. If anything she is an imported new yorker, or a tourist new yorker. And being generous she can be a manhattanite. :(

Ok...let's just clarify here.

First of all, no one called me a "native New Yorker", he said "if you're from NY".

Second, when I leave town and people ask me where I'm from, should I say Pennsylvania? That would be rather confusing since I haven't lived there for 15 years. I say I'm from New York because that's where I came from and that's where I'm going back to. If people ask where I grew up then I reply Pennsylvania.

With all due respect, a "New Yorker" is someone who lives in New York. A "native New Yorker" is someone who grew up here.

so if I move to Cuba and live there for fifteen years does that make me cuban? No it would not because even there I am still a New Yorker who lives in Cuba. Yes no one said you are a native new yorker and by definition a new yorker is someone who was born and raised here. Hence the added cases like tourist new yorker or imported new yorker are used to eliminate any confusion. Aren't you proud of whatever smalltown it is that you came from?

Can't you be happy being ranked among the top 12 do you also have to have the title of new yorker? (thanks for the post)

But who cares really, stop trying to get Jenn all riled up,15 years is long enough for her to be considered a New Yorker.

Being born in a certain state doesn't change your heritage, but nice try. Being Cuban is a nationality. If you move there then yes, you are from Cuba. Are you saying that all of the people who have come to America and got their citizenship are not Americans? Are they tourist Americans? Maybe in your eyes.

I am an American that lives in New York, and yes, I'm proud of the small town I came from, but that's not where I live anymore. Now I'm a New Yorker. Deal with it.

Oh...and by the way...

1. New Yorker - a resident of New York (especially a resident of New York City)
American - a native or inhabitant of the United States
East-sider - a resident of the east side of Manhattan in New York City
West-sider - a resident of the west side of Manhattan in New York City

You left out manhattanite in your listing of new vocabulary.

A suggestion on further readings would be to look at yuppie and hipster.

Oh did you hear that whisper in the background sounds like someone has something stuck in their throat.

Here's an article on trolls you should read:

sometimes when I go to the pool room I hear whispers of rumors that could apply to just about anybody. Its not as much fun as having people confront those rumors directly. I did not initiate this argument I merely stated my case.

I wasn't trying to get her riled up we just argued about who are and who are not new yorkers. Since she put up something of a fight she is starting to sound like a 90's new yorker.

What exactly are you trying to prove?

Does it really matter where Mrs. Barretta hails from? I mean really, is your life going to change whether she grew up in PA, VA, or NY? Will you win a bet? Or are you just so angry that an attractive female is better at pool than you are that you have some need to tear her down. It's not like there are few enough females who actually play that the sport needs people like you trying to convince them not to bother with posting publically.

She might just be an inspiration to other female players, she might be an inspiration to people everywhere. Of course, she might not be a "native New Yorker" either, but really, who cares?

Try lowering your stance a little, strike the center of the cueball, and most importantly, try aiming at it before someone takes your picture. And maybe (this is a stretch obviously) try to learn some manners.

People like you should be banned from the internet as a whole. After reading your inane comments I feel like I've lost IQ by the obvious lack of it on your end.

I am not sure what you mean by people like me. I am sure everyone on the forum is impressed you can use SAT words in your post. Little ole me trying to prove something by arguing about the definition of new yorker, keep guessing. I am not about to rant on about why people like to call themselves new yorkers when they are so obviously not. But I will say that your ill cited criticism of attempting to sound educated is what people can live without. Why be something you aren't and in your case its not well spoken.

PS. this is a pool forum not some course in intro to english course.
But someone was quite proper in using MLA format for their quotes, way to use that college education Mrs. Barreta(shes not that old is she).
