Come to Canada

Back on topic...

Should you have the opportunity to play in Toronto I might suggest the "Crooked Cue". It is an excellent hall, very beautiful, relaxing and filled with great players. Fireplace, lounge, darts, snooker and pool. The wrap-around bar on the far side is also as elegant as the rest of the place.

The hall is close to the corner of Royal York Road on Bloor Street. If he posts here, ask David Malone (aka - The Hamster) for directions.

And should you ever venture further west, there are some excellent halls in Calgary, although I'm partial to my local haunt in Lethbridge, "The Corner Pocket." It's not the Crooked Cue, but it's been voted one of Canada's Best several times.

You're always welcome to play, consider the invitation open.

Justnum,

Jennifer is more chic, elegant, and fashionable than any New Yorker you will ever met.:)

If you stand next to her, which one of you do you think will be taken as the person from a small town?

I would very much like to check out the pool halls in Canada. And while Im there itd be great to watch some division level hockey.

And as far as me standing next to Barreta the statistics would be in her favor. Because most ethnicities do not reside in non-major cities. I personally think she has a nice career, not all her career choices are applaudable(just opinion).

And since the one major title I get to defend is against people making claims they are New Yorkers I will defend it. :D

The question to ask a real New Yorker is what is your favorite subway hustle to hear, where is your favorite homeless located person or whats the worst date conversation you've heard while riding the subway. Not having some of those basic experiences means you haven't been through entry level new york situations.;)

I send my apologies for hijacking the Barreta thread.

That's a nice generalization that you threw out there, but you've obviously never been to my hometown. Here's a little background for you.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there are 31,282 people, 12,028 households, and 7,144 families residing in Norristown. The racial makeup of the borough is 54.32 % White, 34.80 % Black or African American, 0.20 % Native American, 2.96 % Asian, 0.03 % Pacific Islander, 4.61 % from other races, and 3.07 % from two or more races. 10.49 % of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. The census count of Hispanics in Norristown is thought to be a vast understatement because of the increasing number of undocumented immigrants, many of whom are fearful of participating in government surveys.

As far as Toronto, it sounds lovely, and I hope I can make it there someday!

Does your town have Little India(Forest Hills), Little Italy(Lower Manhattan), Chinatown(one in manhattan and queens) then theres chocolate city(Jamaica & FortGreene,151stBronx). Jewish Orthodox/Russian checkout midwest brooklyn around the N train line. then there is the KoreaTown midtown manhattan focused on the westside. I didn't even cover anything on the J line staten island shuttle or LIRR.

Oh if we are comparing towns having one storefront does not count as Chinatown.

My specific location of Queens where I am from, as noted in the picture, is heavily Italian with a budding mix of chinese, korean and filipino. I note the filipino because the local church I goto now has three filipino families I know of.

But your a "New Yorker" you already knew that about this town right. I only mention it because New York City consist of the five boroughs not just Manhattan. Anyone thats ever ridden the subway can tell you that.

Have a nice day, (My day is great exams got canceled for snow), guess those out of towners cant handle the tough weather new york can put you through. :)

Believe me, I'm not comparing my hometown to New York as there is no comparison. I'm merely replying to your generalization about ethnicities only residing in major cities. Whatever nationality you are, I guarantee you wouldn't get a second glance in Norristown, PA.

Enjoy your snow day...I'm taking my daily subway ride to the office (Amsterdam Billiard Club).

If he posts here...? He's everywhere... he's everywhere...

CROOKED CUE
3056 Bloor St West at Royal York
(416) 236-7736

Directions from East of Toronto....
401 West to Don Valley Parkway South.
Don Valley to Gardner Expressway West.
Gardner Expressway W. exit at Islington North.
From Islington hang a right (East) onto Bloor St West.
1/2 block West of Royal York.

But while it's a good old style pool hall, I can recommend a few others closer to downtown - if asked...

I'm glad you're here ... well my kitten sure is. She keeps licking her lips when sees your avatar... ;)

And don't send her to one of those commercialized department store dives ... show the girl some elegance, class, and style. It's worth the drive to play at the Cue.

I am not serious about the out of towners thing, they usually complain the most. And its more of a joking around, in school things get so serious few people have time to joke around.

Dude, you totally forgot about Chinatown in Brooklyn--8th Ave in the 50s. And you call yourself a New Yawker, ha! Just kidding...:p

I knew there was a reason I hated cats...

We've been playing the GWN's at the Coronation on Avenue road lately... nice pool room - GC's and Granito; used to be a bowling alley - and there's always the Charlotte Room downtown which is owned by the august gentleman who started this whole thread...

Let me know when the next tourney will be and I'll see if I can work in it into my schedule. I'll leave the kitties at the boarder's ... you'll be safe, well, from them anyway. ;)

Perhaps Mrs. Barretta will join us and show us how to play ... or rack? :D

The way my schedule is shaping up right now I won't be able to go anywhere until summer. One of these days I'll make my way up there...

Forget Toronto....

You have to come to Ottawa, much nicer city, IMO. I would love to see you play and/or lose horribly to you.

Ottawa? Didn't they close down the Monkey? It was about the only good place to play that I can recall.

Nope, still there.

There a few places to play now, but most of them are wickedly expensive. Dooly's is a nice place but it is 8.50 per hr, and $11.50 after six o'clock. They a have a bizillion tables. There is a sports bar/pool hall which is actually a really classy place, with great tables (easy pockets), called Mclarens. But the best room to practice in is the Broken Cue on Green Bank road. They only have 8 tables and only half of them are 9 footers, so you have to get there early. But the upside is $6 flat rate with no limit.

Ottawa's actually not that bad of a pool area these days. There isn't a plethora of great players but you can find some. I got my ass handed to me the other week. At Le Skratch bar and billiards there were pro tournaments and they have Alain Martel and Luc Salvas come down for them. Le Skratch is closed but apparently it is reopening somewhere else.

Im just curious though. Are you Gerry Watson? I was just wondering based on your forum name being Ghosst and your from Alberta.

No, I'm not Gerry, but I've played a game or two here and there.

Now that you mention it, I do recall playing in Nepean one Christmas. First time I'd seen a carom table in Canada. I laughed at the people looking at it and scratching their heads when they didn't see any pockets.

Le Skratch is closed??? That's news to me. I played there a few weeks ago in our league playoffs... And their web site is still promoting events later in February - where did you hear they were closing?
