Comebacks

I've had a few in our youth league tournament being down 2-0 when i had to spot the person in a race to 3 and won 3-2. I got beat once in that by Matt and he went on to win the winner's side and I won the loser's side. I had to beat him twice and we went to the wire both sets I won both sets 3-2 3-2, I had some good runouts when it counted.

Our city 9ball tournament recently we had to spot the other team 56 point off the bat (1,3,5,7 are 1 point and the 9 is 6 points for a total of 10. 4 people per team and you play everyone twice unless the other team can't win mathematically) We got off to a good start and racked up some points fast. We were down 9 at the half way mark and then the rest of the match was tight within 5 points for either team. The last round my team did good and we were up 9 point with one match to go and I was anchor and snapped the 9 off the break for 10 points.

Nationals I had some good come backs as well running out when I needed to.

What are some of your good comebacks that you have done or have witnessed?

About 4 years ago I was playing at a tourny in Rockville MD at Champions. Races to 7. I win my first match and am playing my second match. I lose the first game and this little voice in the back of my head tells me to take my break, go into the Ladies room and redo my contacts. I ignore the little voice and suddenly find myself contracting "last 3-4 ball-itis" and before I know it, I'm down 4-0.

So after I handed my opponent the 4th game, I listen to the little voice, go into the Ladies room and re-wet my contacts. I came out and she never won another game. 7-4, me.

It turns out I like spotting my opponents 4 games before I start shooting. That wasn't the only time it's happened.

I was playing house league 9 ball a few years back, and my division was a mixed B and C. I was a B playing Brad, a C, so I had to give him the 8 ball. I started very poorly, then fell asleep, only to wake up to a score of 8-0 in a race to 9 .... OOOOOPS. So I said to myself, just win this next game (the league winner is based on total wins so they all count). I ended up winning the next 9 games to win 9-8. Whew ! I'll never forget that, and neither will Brad. There were a few railbirds gathering to see Brad kick my butt, and there were a few more at the end. None could believe that I could come back from that far down (neither would you if you knew me :) ).

Thanks for reminding me Tanner !

I have always been a slow starter, problem with that is I have to make comebacks to win LOL.

I have had several big comebacks. Was down 6 to 1 in a race to 7 during a tourney and came back to win. But the one that stands out the most to me was during an APA nineball top gun tourney. I had played well all day but after setting for a while I started out terrible during this match. I think back then I was a seven and my opponent was an 8. He needed 13 pts and I still needed 39 (if not a few more, Id have to look back and see, I kept the score sheet LOL) He was over laughing it up and joking with the girls that were at his table keeping score. He got a little quiet when I came all the way back and won the match.Thats one of the ones Im most proud of, it may sound silly but I really wanted that trophey and I decided I wasnt going to play all day and then let myself get beat out late in the tourney.

One of the best comebacks I've watched would have to have been at one of the Sands tournaments back in 1990 or 91 (can't remember the year off-hand). Jim Rempe was down 8-0 in a race to 11 with Nick Varner and came back to win the match 11-10. On the final shot of the match, Rempe very nearly scratched in one of the top corner pockets of the pool table.

If memory serves, this was the first pro tournament that Johnny Archer won. I'm guessing it was the Sands XIII.

I think my best comeback came about a month and a half ago at a tournament I went to. I played one of the better players from that pool hall who is always consistent. I was down 5-0 in a race to 9. I started to change my game plan by playing safe a few times that I didn't have a wide open run out instead of trying to break stuff out. I ended up winning that match 9-5. I was so happy after that, and a lot of people couldn't believe it. :D

Last years midwest open in St Charles Illinois, 9 ball race to 5. I was down
4-0, somehow I finally got my head in the game and came back 4-4. My opponent breaks pockets a ball and calls a roll out(I have no idea why)
The one ball was a little off center to right, 9 ball opposite side of table in front of 3 ball, I caromed off the 1 into the 3 and made the 9 in the corner.
