It is my lovely other half's 40th next year and she has expressed a desire to head to the good ole USA for a few weeks.

I anticipate three weeks in and around May 31st next year (her birthday).

During that trip, she is intending to stop for a few days with a friend in Illinois and has said to me

"of course you can dash off to a pool tournament for a few days while I am visiting blah blah"

So the question I need help with...

If you were in my position and in the states for a few weeks in and around the end of May next year - which is the "must not miss" pool tournament/festival I should be heading for?

As a spectator and participant.

It doesn't necessarily have to be in or around Illinois..

I'm an E8B player really but willing to throw my arm at anything and being a brit naturally have a superior cue action anyway :cool::cool:

I mention the above re "speed" as you guys call it..

A man with your obvious superior cue action should definitely play One Pocket, it is a satisfying struggle in which a tournament can be found most anywhere you go as long as you are ok with a small entry fee of $20 a rack. For a studious chap like yourself it should take at least an hour to win the tournament and after each tournament another will be just getting ready to start on your table! All you have to do is enter!

If you can delay your flight booking until Jan '16 you will have a better idea of most tournament dates etc. It's what I do

If you have a pocket full of cash to gamble, bring your superior cueing action to Buffalos Billiards in Metairie, Louisian. I am not equipped to make your machine-like arm shake but we have a couple of players that will give it a go.

If you give up large spots with that superior cueing action you can even have a go at some of the bangers.

If you are not the gambling type and are just looking for some friendly action there is always one pocket that the minions love to play for cheap money and big money. The travelers almost always get the cheese. Why should you be different.... Just bring a big wad of dough and flash it real good, hide that superior stroking action and you will be ready to set Buffs on fire after spreading a little corn around.

Enjoy your visit to America.

You might check the AZ Billiards Tournament schedules for that window you are looking to be here and see if any tournaments are set for that time of the year. BTW, where do you plan to set up house-keeping during your visit to the states?

Other cueit's from the home country who have preceded me have advised I bring my own butler as apparently local staff is hard to come by.

On the issue of speed. Good gracious I hope I didn't come across as arrogant!

I'm old and would only want to play a tournament for the experience. Way beyond competing in a serious competitive way.

There is not a wide culture of playing people for money in the UK either.

I don't actually play ap and was planning on practising on the plane.

Thanks for all your help x

I had no idea there was a tournament calendar!

No worries Mate!

Come pass a good time. There's something for everyone.

If your butler can get me up to speed on that tea thing you Brits have going on, I will gladly try to give you a little friendly competition if you pass my way.
