Fu Jian Bo v Xu Meng - First Round

Fu won the leg, but broke with nothing…Xu took on and picked solids. He potted 3 balls and then unfortunately positioned the cue ball at a bad place… He aimed carefully but still missed the shot.. Fu got back to the table, and took his time, cleared the table.

Fu broke and had to shoot safety after 2 solids potted. Xu fought back with safety and left Fu with a very hard position. Fu shot too hard, the ball did not go into the tight pocket. At this moment, 3 pairs of big and smalls are close to each other on the table.. Xu banked on of the strips and got a good poison on his next shoot – combo shoot. The target ball went in with no problem but the left with no shot next. Xu failed to play a good safety and Fu smartly clear 3 balls but had to come to a strategically safety with not managed to kick number 3 off a strip.. But he successfully got a ball in hand with the safety he left. He cleared all he remaining solids but got a banking position on the 8. He aimed the shot, lined up and potted the 8….Applauses.

Fu got his good break and it is almost going to be a run-out but the cue ball was far out of the range when Fu potted his last solid. He then missed the shoot on 8 but left it blocking 2 strips, where Xu used to play safety. Fu foul, Xu cleared the table.

Xu broke with nothing, Fu came back to table and picked strips and easily run out the table, leading ………3-1.

Another nice break, Fu cleared 6 balls but fail cut the 2 balls into left corner, but cue ball was behind the 8. Hard shot for Xu. After several tries, he decided to use a high bridge. The cue ball ran very slowly after hitting one strip…no cushion. Fu quickly pot his last solid and then the 8…..4-1.

Fu broke with nothing…Xu came up , cleared 7 strips, but failed to pot the 8, with a long distance shot. Again, Fu took the chance and cleared the table…5-1 leading…

Fu had his poor break again. Xu this time, did not let the chance fly…7 solids then shot 8 into the middle pocket. 5-2.

Xu broke, picked the solids and again, had to shoot combo from a hard position he left for himself. Fu missed his shot after Xu missed the combo, and another round back and forth, finally, Xu got a chance and won out this tuff one. 5-3

Powerful break but no balls gained from Xu. Fu easily cleared all solids and won his 6th frame…6-3

Fu’s break not no good at all and left Xu with a position easily enough to clear the table…6-4

No balls went in fro Xu’s break, solids are easy enough fro Fu to pot then but unluckily, the 8 ball was clocked by 2 strips after the last solid was potted. Fu managed to touch the 8 after hitting the cushion. But obviously Xu won’t let the change go by…6-5

Fu got his chance back to play with Xu’s empty break. But carelessly missed an easy middle pocket shot. Xu obviously was not thinking about chance of going back, he missed one easy corner shot. This time Fu fought back…7-5

No balls at the break, Xu stopped his running at his last strip. Fu cleared the table..8-5 leading…

Fu had his first sound break and carried on to have his 1st run-out….9-5

Everybody was thinking the end of this match, but Fu unluckily kicked one solid to behind the strip. Xu back to shoot to the end…9-6.

Xu had a nice break but the cue ball scratched as well after 2 color balls went in. Fu confidently and steadily locked his last point…10-6

2nd match Fu jianbo vs.Chu Hong Ming

Chu won the leg, broke with no balls. Fu picked strips, 3 balls potted, stopped at a straight combination shot. Chu returned Fu with a safety. Got to shoot again, won out the game.

Chu’s break…ended with scratch of the cue ball. Fu came back with 1:1 tie.

Fu broke and made one strip in the middle but he picked solids right away and had his first run out. 2:1

A very nice break from Fu, 3 balls potted, cue ball was almost over the side pocket but was hit into the middle pocket by 3 ball. Chu had his ball in hand and strips were easy enough for him to make the score tight again….2-2

Chu broke and shot solids, however he missed his 2nd pot on the 4 into the middle. Strips were not easy to finish. Fu was not able to break a 3-ball set and got back to seat with a safety shot. Chu easily pot the 3 but cue ball ran back and hit the 8 into the group of strip balls. Fu got back to shoot 3-2

Fu did not get his feeling back on the break. However Chu was left to only have strips shoot. He did not shoot the easy strip but a long one…missed. Fu picked strips but did left a slim cut 12 ball not potted. Solids were hard. Banked one, combo made one in, missed one straight long shoot. Fu finished 3 strips on the table and cut the 8 to the corner. 4-2

Fu’s break again. The white ball jumped very high after hitting, onto the side rail then rolled to hit the only ball into the corner pocket. Fu maybe too happy about this gift, missed the close shot on the 7..Open table!! Chu seemed to like strips better. After one 3-rail of the cue ball, Chu pot his last color ball in, then 8 ball…4-3

Chu was very serious about the rack this time. It took over 5 mins before he decided the rack was good. But after his powerful break, all colors balls remained on the table. Fu was able to clear as many as he could but was stuck at a very thin cut of his last 5 ball…foul. Chu took the cue ball and came back with 4-4 tight.

Fu couldn’t finish all his balls after Chu’s empty break, but left Chu’s 1 ball surrounded by 2 strips. Chu pot 5 ball in and kicked 1 out from the strip but missed easy angle of the 3 ball. However Fu’s miss make the his score 4-5, 1 frame behind Chu. Chu leading.

Chu broke with one color in, but fail to pot to choose color. However Fu scratched on his 2nd shoot and left Chu with hard work of solid balls. Chu showed his intelligence with 2 kicks making all his balls potable and potted. 6-4, 2 frames leading

2 quick break and run-out, 8-4 leading…

Chu did not make any balls at the next game. Fu finished the game with one shoot, 8-5…

Not sure if rack or break was bad, after Fu’s break shot, the table was massed by over 10 balls close to their rack place. Chu came up and started to pot solids. He soon decided to play a difficult carom shot but the ball was rejected by the tight pocket. Fu picked up his chance, however, the mass balls in the racking area were not easy. To be safe, Fu pot one out of them and left 2 annoying the 8 and 1 of Chu’s solids. Chu very smartly swapped all the solids but left himself with a long cut shot on the 8 and missed with 8 left at the pocket area. Fu played a snooker cue ball behind 15. Chu stroked a long bank shot and managed to pot the 8 in the corner. 9-5

Chu had a nice break and solids seemed easy to finish. But the corner pocket said no to the 6 ball and to Chu as well. Fu came back to the table with his last hope but suspended his shooting when 12 needed a very thin cut but the cue ball was blocked behind 15. Chu tried cushion shot but failed to pot his ball. Fu very preciously controlled the cue ball at his every shoot till the end…9-6.

Fu’s break again with all his strength, but again nothing pocketed. Chu thought very carefully before his first shoot. 1st solid ball was potted but 2nd one was left on the table—not potted. Fu carried on his hope but still not had his feelings back. After his miss of cutting 15, Chu returned to the table and lock the score at 10:6

Day 2 Match 3 Furuta vs. Liu Wei

Liu won the leg and broke but with no balls in. Furuta picked solids ball and easily won the 1st …1:0

Furuta’s broke seemed to have same problems. Liu took a serious aim at 2 ball, potted, but scratch the cue ball in the up left corner. Furuta came back to the table. Again, strips picked, easy run-all …2:0

One break and run-out, Furuta 3:0 leading.

Furuta’s next break came back with nothing. Liu cleared all strips and won his first frame. 1:3, 2 frames behind.

Liu’s second break was as powerful but ‘bad’ as his first one. Furuta pot 6 strips in but missed the cut 14 ball. Liu did not let this chance fly by. 8 solid pottings, score changed to 2:3,. 1 frame behind.

Liu’s 3rd break was even more powerful. This time, 1 of each color balls was potted. However, cue ball was left only on solids. 3 were gone very shortly, but 1 ball was hit too hard and bounced out from the corner. But Furuta dramatically missed his 1 shoot at strip ball, which brought Liu back to the game again. Liu potted 2 solids but missed the position on his last one and had to shoot safety. The cue ball was left far from where Furuta’s strips were. Furuta missed his long pot and Liu however very bravely use a long bank shoot to pot his last 7, smartly got a good position on the 8 ball. 3-3 tight.

Liu had his 1st break and run-out, 4:3 leading…

Liu’s break was good enough to pot 3 balls in but he then picked to shoot a combo carom shot and missed. Table was left open. Neither Furuta nor Liu got a good chance to finish the game. After several rounds, Furuta broke the ice and got his 4th game. 4:4 tight, again.

Liu fought back after Furuta’s bad miss. Scores were now 5:4.. Liu’s leading.

Liu scratched on his next break. Furuta got ball in hand and cleared the table. 5-5 tight.

Furuta quickly got his 1st run-out and led the match at 6:5.

Another break and run-out, Furuta leading 7:5.

Liu came back to the table when Furuta had an empty break. Liu’s 1st stun shot was hard enough to kick his 14 out into a good shape. After several precious aiming and potting, scores were changed to 6:7, still 1 frame behind Furuta.

Liu got his break however scratch on the 8 ball left Furuta with an open table. After a well thought, Furuta managed to move 1 frame further ahead of Liu , 8-6

Furuta continued to have good break and carefully potted all his balls, 9-6 on the hill.

Again, 10-6 locked the score.

Match 4 Liu Wei vs. Xu Meng

Liu won the leg but was not able to pot any balls. Xu was not able to clear all his balls and left Liu with a very good chance to shoot safety. Liu shot very well to make Xu foul 3 times in a row and won his first frame. 1-0

Liu continued to had bad luck on his break. A few rounds back and forth, Liu shot tactically and got his 2nd win…2-0

This time, his break was good enough for Liu to make his run-out. 3-0, leading.

Liu broke, balls potted, but cue ball scratched. Xu seemed not serious at the game. He kept missing his middle pocket shoot. However, Liu’s 8 ball was a nightmare. Xu carried on his last strip then the 8…1-3..

Xu broke with nothing. Liu unfortunately missed the 8 ball, left it close to corner pocket. Xu made a snooker and Liu missed the masse shot. Xu came back and got his game..2-3.

Xu had his 2nd empty break. 2 players exchanged a few rounds. Xu got his chance after played a good safety…3-3 tight.

3nd empty break for Xu. Liu got his 4th win after several rounds’ attack and defense. 4-3.

Liu broke and made 1 strip ball, but cue ball was pushed close to the corner pocket by 2 solids, left no shot. Liu’s safety was no good. Xu got back and solidly ran out the table. 4-4 tight again.

Liu fought back when Xu had his empty break again. 5-4 leading…

Liu had a nice break, but missed 1 ball to the corner which was an obviously easy shot. After both players’ miss, Xu eventually secured the scores to 5-5.

Xu had his good break, started to pot, however his last shot on the color ball make the 8 into the middle pocket!! Loss of the frame. 5-6 behind Liu.

Liu had his 1st run out after break. Leading 7-5…

However Liu’ 2nd one was stopped by missing a cut on 4 ball to the corner. Xu got 1 frame back.. Scores now 7-6. Liu still leading..

Xu’s break was empty. Liu picked strips but could not finish them all. Xu came back to the table and set the score to 7-7 tight.

Xu kept having bad breaks. Liu was then brought back to the game with a convincing win…8-7, 1 frame ahead of Xu.

Liu got his 2nd B&R..on the hill now..9-7.

Liu had a nice break but cue ball was off the position for him to continue shooting after his 1st shot. After a few rounds of safety, Xu caught his chance to finish this tough frame. 9-8.

Xu kept his advance with Liu’s couple of misses. 9-9 …both are on the hill.

Unluckily, Xu had an empty break on this deciding frame. Liu confidently secured his win at one shot. 10-9..

....more to come.

Small turnout Colin ! Nice commentary from Mr Fang.

Maybe the potential US Visa problems still scaring entrants?......but notice that Wei Lu is in the mix again so he must be more hopeful this time in that respect.

Sorry couldn't make it,sunken ships to deal with and golf courses to rape:)

Best wishes to everyone there:)

Thanks Mike,
Do let me know when you get into town next:cool:

Yeah, turnout is pretty small here with just 5 players, but as you say, the Chinese are nervous about the Visa risk, especially with such a short time to arrange it.

And the foreigners don't seem to keen to visit here after both Alcano and Becker found the competition tough and later both went to the US to win through without losses.

There will be some strong players coming out of China is coming years that's for sure.

Colin

btw: Kazuo Faruta, the Japanese born player who grew up and plays in Taiwan won through the winning side for a place at Reno an hour ago. He came in 3rd here last time.

He plays very smart 8-ball and will be a player to watch out for I think.

Yeah, Becker qualified for the World Open in Reno:
http://www.internationalpooltour.co...rs/WO_open_06/online_coverage/WO1/default.asp

He had earlier played in the tour card qualifiers but missed out. He ran 6 or 7 racks against Sigel and won a qualifier entry, then went to Shanghai and placed 4th, winning another qualifier entry. (Well, US$1,000 entry worth).

He's got a huge break and can play real strong. I think his game had suffered under commitment to national army training in Germany, but now he can dedicate more time to practice.

Colin

Chu Hong Min (Taiwan) will now play Liu Wei (The Chinese Player who won the North American Open qualifier in Shanghai, but failed to get his visa) for the second qualifier spot.

Liu who beat Fu Jian Bo 10-6 in the winner's side final last time, just beat him again 10-9. Unfortunately that means Fu Jian Bo won't make it to Reno unless he travels overseas for other qualifiers after he won US$10k at Vegas and just missed out on making the 4th round.

Here's the match commentary:

Match 6 Liu Wei vs. Fu Jianbo

Liu won the leg but got his first empty break. Fu picked up but missed one easy side pocket shot. Liu then easily cleared the table 1-0 leading…

After a nice break, Liu ran out. 2-0

Another nice break from Liu, but Liu lost control of his cue ball when he was on the 8 ball shot. Liu had to bank the cue ball to try to make the 8. Touched but not potted. Fu came up and cleared the table .1-2

Fu made a very powerful break and good control on the cue ball. He easily picked strips and ran out. 2-2 tight.

Fu’s break was as good as his last one. Fu couldn’t secure his 3rd win with his first shot. However, Liu gave chance back to Fu again after his combo shot missed. Fu scratched cue ball after 1 ball potted using the high bridge. Liu then carried his game until he got a straight shoot on his last color ball 12. Liu hit too hard with stun, trying to cheat some angle, but 12 ball bounced out the pocket, but luckily Fu’s solid was snookered. Fu saved his shot and left Liu with a bank shot. Liu carefully aimed and bounced 12 and positioned himself well on the 8….magic…..3-2 leading…

Liu continued his nice break, even nicer this time. His 6 ball shot was slightly off the way and had to play safety with Fu. It took over 10 minutes for Fu to start his attack. 4 color balls soon potted then the 8 ball. 3-3 tight.

Fu’s break then was no good. However, Liu’s potting of strips balls stopped at his 3rd shot. Fu came back to the game to got his 4th point. 4-3 leading..

Fu’s break was not with much power, but it did not stop Fu from run out. 5-3 leading

Another run out for Fu after his ‘ok’ break. Scores were changed to 6-3.

Fu gave his next break a little bit more power but unfortunately not a single ball was made. Liu managed to clean all strips ball but the cue was left touching with one solid....hard shot on the 8 ball. Fu came back to the game after Liu missed slightly on the 8 ball shot to pot almost all his balls. Fu accidentally scratched on the 1 ball and gave up the frame. 6-4.

Liu’s big break did not save him the next frame. No ball was made. Strips were left easy for Fu. Fu’s bad bridge on the 9 ball shot killed him. Liu came back and sent himself to 5 against 6.

Liu broke and ran out his next frame, set score to 6:6 tight.

Liu’s next break was empty. However, Fu missed the rail cut was succeeded by Liu’s long distance shot miss. Fu got back and scored to 7:6 leading.

Fu changed the stance which he used to break with, but that did not come back with new hopes. Liu chose strips and fought back with 7-7 tight.

Liu’s cue ball jumped off the table with too much power gathered by him. Fu consistently potted all his solids in then the 8 ball to lead Liu with 8-7.

Fu’s poor break scarified his advantage, Liu set the score to 8-8 tight.

Liu’s next break was bad either. The cue ball spin into the side pocket after one solid was made. Fu got back to the table and proved himself the best. 9-8. only one frame to go.

However Fu’s break left Liu with open table. Liu fought back with his own frame, tie the game at 9-9!!

Liu broke with nothing, however, Fu came back with a very bad miss at a close shoot on the 14, which was about 2 inches from the pockets. Liu took the shot and bravely shoot all the solids in to get himself into the final against Taiwanese player Chu…10-9.

One Side Loss Final

One-loss side final Liu Wei vs. Chu Hung Ming

Chu’s break. No ball went in.. Liu came up and ran the game. 1-0 leading.

Liu demonstrated his good break… But soon a bad position of the cue ball stop Liu from winning his 2nd point. Chu showed his perfect pool skill and finished the frame with no problem…1-1

Chu broke and ran out to get his 2nd point..2-1 leading…

Chu’s another break and run out enlarge the leading to 3-1.

The 5th game’s break was not so good. Liu got back to the table and clearly potted 5 balls but left table unsecured to Chu. Chu smoothly took this frame from Liu 4-1 leading…

Chu’s empty break left Liu with open table. However, Liu scratched the cue ball after potting 3 of his balls. Chu did not finished the game because 2 of his ball were hard to kick…Liu then took this last chance, caught up the score with 2-4

Liu then had his nice break again.. But the cue ball was left frozen with the side rail, close enough for Liu missed his next shoot. Chu’s 4 ball was not easy, surrounded by 2 strips and the 8, hardly had any angle to be potted. Chu used 3 shots to kick his 4 ball out but was left a hard shot afterwards. Chu missed that and Liu carried on this 3rd win. 3-4

Liu broke and ran out to set game to tight 4-4.

Liu’s next break was empty. However Chu’s miss on this long pot gave chance back to Liu. 5-4 Liu started to lead.

Liu broke and unable to pot his 9 into the side pocket. Chu came up and won this 5th point …5-5

Chu had his nice break. However, he had to bridge over 8 ball to shoot 4 and he then missed. Table was not left easy for Liu. Liu and Chu started to shoot safety. Finally, Liu decided to attack after Chu had a not good save but left his last strip snookered by the 8 ball. Liu saved this shot was not able to pot the ball. Chu then picked up from where it was cleared and led by 6-5.

Chu broke and chose his ball, but his next shot was missed. Liu had to shoot very hard on his first strip ball and missed as well unfortunately. Chu progressed 1 frame further to become 7-5 leading.

Chu’s cue ball was running towards the low-right corner after his break, but kicked to become a stop by a solid ball just about 2 inches away from that pocket. Chu ended up with safety shoots with Liu. Liu tried to fight back but the cue ball was hit with too much power, rolled slowly into the side pocket.. Chu had ball in hand, cleared the table with one smart kick…8-5

Chu broke well again. He picked strips but scratched the cue ball with his first strip….left table open. Liu picked strips from what Chu left with and came back with 6-8…2 frames behind.

Liu broke and ran out came back with 7-8….

Another break and run out, Liu tied the match with 8-8.

Liu’s next break was not good, however, Chu missed a cut after Liu’s empty break but left the pocket blocked. Liu tried to did kick Chu’s ball at his pot, but cue ball rolled in right after. Chu got ball in hand and eaily clear what remained. 9-8

Chu’s final break was very good. But, but his 1st cut at strip was slightly missed!!! Liu might never think he had chance to come back. He smiled and stand up slowly, started to pot strips. No miss….9-9 both on the hill!

Liu’s break left himself only strip. 1st strip was pushed into side pocket after a short aiming, shorter than Liu used to. Rest of the strips were all in good positions. However no one could afford one single miss. Will Liu make them all? The only hard work for Liu was 13 close to the left side-rail. After a very slim cut of 9 ball into the side, he was on the shot of 13. It was almost straight, but had to shoot with bridge….and….he missed, was trying to play too much draw… Chu’s last hope continued…Chu had no chance to pot his 4 and left Liu with a straight shot with both cue ball and oject ball 13 at each side rail…13 ball even frozen. Liu slowly pushed the cue ball to 13 and made the cue ball same rail after hit. Chu then again shot safety, left cue ball right next to 13, both close to the rail. Liu very aggressively tried to bank the cue ball to try 13 the low-left corner, but foul. Chu slowly potted all his solids and then 8 ball…Chu won!!! 10-9
