Misc thoughts ...
For arguments sake -
Wouldn't be great if we could take actual statistices
of old poolplayers and todays and feed them all into a computer, then have
computer matches between the Greats of Yester year with todays players,
like they did with boxing. I think that would be really interesting...
and one of my offbeat hobbies is Quantum Mechanics. Are you telling me
that your 3 year old grandson will know more about it when he is 11 than
I do ..... that's a good one ..lol
First, the academic world is slow, slow, and slow.
By the time a new subject gets put into the educational system, it
is outdated. (and that even applies for most colleges).
Second, most students do not apply themselves for learning how to learn,
they simply memorize facts and figures, and then report them on tests.
Third, Original thoughts out of anyone are far and few anymore.
Fourth, Most people learn more useful knowledge in Technical Schools, than
they ever learned in High School or College. (and my personal experience with that bears that out - I had 2 college degrees, and went to a technical school after college and 1 year of graduate school to crosstrain into computers).
Fifth, Most people do not really know what they want until they get out working for awhile, and find out what they 'don't' want to do, either by working in a college chosen field and finding out it is not like they thought,
or working at menial type jobs.
Sixth, Even if they happen to find what they are really interested in, they are hindered from progressing optimally by the normal 'rank and file' corporate
structures that exist in our country.
Seventh, Corporations pick executives not by their intelligence, but rather by
what fits with the corporation and its image.
I could go on, but I am sure you get the idea.
