Complete Newbie, One Question.

So I've been lurking here a while and finally decided to make an account after playing pool after class for a few weeks now.

They told me I should get my own stick since the ones we play with are bad.

I luckily found one at a garage sale but I have no idea what it is.
Anyone want to help me find out about it? Thanks!

On the plus side, that looks like it might be a Maple shaft.
Let's put it this way: it could be worse.
Play with it, take care of it and when you're ready to move up
you could probably get back what you paid for it.

With the male pin on the shaft, that leaves the butt with the female of course. You can use that to fool bad buys as was done in the Whopi G. movie where it was pointed like a gun out of a car window.

I have one like that. My Dad bought it for me for Christmas in 71 from Sears. I still have it. At the time it sold for $15, if memory serves me.

I had more fun with that cue than the law should allow.

Any cue is better than no cue!! What you have doesn't appear to be a real high end cue, but should get you going in the right direction. If you love the game you will quickly want to upgrade. I'd suggest going to a billiard store or pool hall that sells cues and take a look at some first hand to give you an idea of what you can grow into.

KMart cue!!!

I think they sold 19.00 with the case new.

Most had Ramin or Hickory Shafts. KJ has a keen eye!!

Honestly, that cue is at the very bottom of the food chain. It's still better than many house cues. Learn a little and upgrade when you can.

I have a butt that will work with that shaft this is actually pretty cool looking. 4 point, 4 veneer with mother of toilet seat inlays at the base of the veneers. Full splice too. PM me if interested.
