What OS ( operation system ) and browser as well as what email program are you using?

Just on a hunch, when was the last time you restarted the computer?

Well

Most have a limit of 10mb for attachments! Are going over that limit?
Go get Firefox or Netscape 8.1 browsers (Netscape is Firefox based), they are more user friendly and faster.
Go get a Hotmail account.

When is the last time you checked for viruses? A complete check?
I got infected 3 different times when I had Mcafee, it didn't catch it, and
once with Norton. I went the AVG free edition (free download), and no problems.

YES,the problem is attaching/ I always crop pics-never been too large, checked, csanned everything yesterday

I had Norton Anti-Virus and I switched to Mcafee and it slowed my system down considerably and when I finally figured out that Mcafee was causing my computer to take so long to boot up I switched to AVG free edition like you did and i've been very pleased with AVG ever since I installed it. I would definately recommend AVG Anti-virus to anyone.

Jim, I have had problems with attaching to Hotmail before and it was thier side and measures thier AV was taking that was the issue.

Do you have anothe mail accout you can try, just to be sure it isn't a software problem?

I have seen instances in Yahoo mail that rejects .GIF files that are scripted for animation/movement, etc. (Not very often though)

Try various picture formats, gif, jpg, etc. See if it is limited to one file type.

As mentioned before, you can see if it's your antivirus or firewall by turning them off to upload the picture. (Turn them back on though).

I agree with Snapshot. Get firefox (www.mozilla.org) it is much more secure. Their "Thuderbird" mail client is ok, but it does need some user friendly enhancements. In firefox, you can still have your yahoo toolbar and mail.

If this stuff doesn't work, let me know and we'll get your windows net meeting set up (assuming you are on Windows 2000 or later) and I can look at your screen in real time as you do it. (You shouldn't need to get firefox for it to work though)

FWIW.... I've used Norton's Internet Security for the better part of 7 years and have yet to have any issues (knock on wood aka my head)... I also use the free version of Ad-aware for the spyware scans. Both of those combined have served me very well.

Craig

P.S.
Like SCCues mentioned... AVG Antivirus is a very good free program. I'll also recommend the free version of zone alarm for a firewall.
