Hello! First of all, I want to greet you Happy Holidays! I have this question for you and I'm hoping you could give me your expert opinion on this matter about concentration. Where or what do you concentrate on when you are playing? During a shot? I played a lot of sports and read some books about concentration and they all teach that a player should concentrate on only one thing while playing. In pool, i asked some good players and they all have diffrent answers. Here are some of their answers:
1) cue ball path and the position they want it to be.
2) stroking arm/hand
3) cue ball
4) exact hit on the cue ball
5) follow through( as if reaching the object ball)
6) object ball
7) pocket
8) speed
9) etc. etc.

Pool as we all know isn't really an exact science yet. Otherwise this game that we love would become boring.
I just want your opinion on this. No player can put their concentration on all of these things at the same time. So if you
are to choose just one, which is it? If its not listed on the above mentioned, I am interested to know where or what do you concentrate on. Many thanks and again Happy holidays to you!

Jun, try to eliminate as many idiots as you can. Try to focus on the balls. You always want to be thinking about hitting the balls. Practice your englishes and get the kinks out early to help you tune up. I find practicing alone works for me.

The only time I have ever heard any "good" players talk about
...stroking arm...cue ball path...followthrough... speed, etc
is when they have lost their confidence and they are having a "bad" game!!

Listen to Keith...
Focus on the balls...just keep hitting the balls ...get the feel...keep hitting the balls !!!
Also, if you are a beginning player do not forget to work on your basics...

*note* I hope to have a small handbook on the market this summer... it will probably be called "The Mental Enemy"....(about 30 pages) ...how to control your focus, what to be thinking about, what NOT to think about , etc.

thanks Keith and Arjack. I will try to do just that. I find it easier to play when i just focus on the balls. Thanks again.
