Okay, so he didn't win... however.... AZ's own Robert Raiford did make the semis and had big wins over Austrian/Swiss champ Andreas Efler and former European champ and strong Turkish player Murat Naci Coklu. Raiford ran 5 and out to win that one.
5 and out is pretty good, but rumor has it he ran a 13 in after-hours competition!
Congrats for another fine Sang Lee event, Robert.

Thanks! :)

That was definitely my best performance at the Sang Lee event so far. We played 40-point games in the semis which were longer than the 35 in previous years. In both cases I got an early lead and then towards the end the champions caught up to me and got slightly ahead. It looked like average was going to play out but somehow I managed sneak by and win anyway - very lucky!!

Also in the qualification round I had my best *loss* ever against current US champ Miguel Torres. He beat me 30-25 in 16/15 innings. That means I lost playing 1.667! Very strange feeling, indeed. Unfortunately, we met again in the semis and I played my worst game of the tournament 0.438 :( My other "good" loss was in the semis was averaging 1.190 against Patino.

I had an "official" run of 11 in the qualification rounds, but the 13 was after hours against AZ's cuetable, Wei Chao. 13 is my high run, and I made the most spectacular miscue on the 14th to keep it that way :o Wei diagrammed something similar in the Carom Cafe section of his Public Library site on CueTable.com here. I gave my responses there as well as a diagram of the way I remember #14.

Mr.Raiford,

Was your matches with Effler and/or Coklu recorded by CaromTV or Highrock Productions?

awesome Robert!

You still playing some at Doral?

Elbeau and I tangled last at that place...love the tables but the management doesnt seem to give much support to their 9ball events. They tried to run a 16 player tournament on 2 tables. 6 hrs later....

No, they seemed to be more interesting in recording some guys named Blomdahl and Caudron instead for some reason. :) I almost brought my camcorder for recording my matches but thought it might be too distracting. Now I'm kicking myself, of course!

Yes, that's where I prefer to play these days. They put new cloth on all the tables recently and they play beautifully!

Sorry to hear that about the tournament. They've really improved over the past year, but it's still a fairly new business and they still got a bit to learn about such things. They're good people though, so I trust that it will be worked out eventually.
