Congrats Tony Crosby

it is true...

i was at the Tournament and i have to say that he played GREAT... he is a monster on the table and a GREAT guy outside of it... i even had the pleasure of talking to him during the tournament and introduced him to one of our southern traditions... boiled peanuts... lol...

another congrats is in order to our very own Josh Hillard... he placed 3rd or 4th (i cant remember) and played great...

Congrats Tony !

I'm thinking you won because we spoke on the phone when you were driving to the event and I wished you luck.

Then again, it's probably got to do more with the fact that you play great.

Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS on your victory !

This was a good event to play in. 103 players all money paid back.
I played well and made a lot of new freinds.
Thanks Tony Crosby

Good shooting, Tony! :)

Good luck to you at Turning Stone.

I've been watching the weather forecast for Verona, NY, where the Turning Stone Casino is located:

WEDNESDAY - Mostly cloudy in the morning - then becoming partly sunny. A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Highs in the mid 30s. West winds around 10 mph.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT - Partly cloudy in the evening - then becoming mostly cloudy. A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Lows around 20. West winds around 10 mph.

THURSDAY - Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of snow showers. Highs in the upper 30s.

THURSDAY NIGHT - Partly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of snow showers. Lows 15 to 20.

I know you're enjoying nice sunny weather in Florida, and once you get to the casino, you'll be warm and comfy, but en route, you better bundle up! :p

Congrats to Tony C, that sounds like it was a very tough field at Starcade this year. I always liked that room alot. Havent been there since the early 90s but it was definitely one of those rooms you walk into and you go, "ok this is a pool players room". Last time I was there, Jimmy Wales was still playing high gear. Just goes to show how long its been since I've been up there.

I just read he won a big tournament at Fort Walton Beach.
Congrats.

Tony was playing GREAT. In the winner's bracket, John Schmidt had him stuck and bleeding 7-2 in a race to 9. Somehow, Tony hung in there and made a phenomenal comeback to win the match. Tony has a very nice personality and is modest when touting his comeback. He sounded more like Efren Reyes when he said I got kind of lucky against John. :-)

I wish I could have stayed for the final several matches but had a long drive ahead of me and with little sleep from the two days that we spent at the tournament, I was eager to get home and rest.

The Andy Grubbs Memorial Tournament at Starcade is an annual event but they have two big tournaments each year and the next one is in the fall.

Hope I can make it again. Perhaps I will increase my level of play and play a little better. I came one match out of the money but had a great time. The match that I lost was to a young man who was delayed in getting to the tournament site by a Mardi Gras parade in Navarre Beach Florida. Robin asked me if I was willing to wait for my opponent. If I say no, my opponent forfeits his match so I tell the owner that I want to wait. I understand legitimate reasons for not being able to make it to your match on time and being from the Mardi Gras City, I had to give my opponent some slack. He responded in kind with a bit of ass-whup. :D

Anyway, it is a well run tournament with a tradition of top players competing every year and having a great time. There were 103 players at the tournament. Some of the guys from the Gulf Coast (MS) have a tradition of eating some Japanese food at a restaurant called Okinawa and so we visited there and ate some delicious food. The dinner helped soothe the pain of my final loss to my delayed opponent.

Jim Jennings played some very nice pool winning some matches 9-2 & 9-1 as well as a hill-hill match where when in one of his matches the score was 8-7 and Jim had the two choices after the break, roll out or jump over a few balls to pocket the two ball. The one ball fell on the break and his wife was anxious to say the least and said "Oh my, he had better roll-out" and I told her he can't roll out because there is no safe place to roll out to- He's got to jump. She said if he jumps he's gonna scratch and there was no way in the world for him to scratch. You just had to see the layout. Sure enough he jumps the balls, doesn't pocket the two ball but the cue caroms into another ball and then the cue ball rolls about 5 feet knocking balls along the way and falls into the side pocket. HIs wife hauls off and hits me on the should hard enough to rock me. All I wanted to know is if she was psychic but that just made her even more mad. :-) Jim made a good out on the hill-hill game to win while I kept his very intense wife restrained. :-)

Tony was playing GREAT. Thanks anonymous somebody who politely asked me if I meant JUMP instead of roll out in my previous post and I did and edited the thread. JoeyA

Just got the phone call, Tony Crosby and fellow Brits are on the way to New Orleans via Mobile, Alabama. GEEZE, those guys must be making a lot of noise if heard about it. Now you heard about it too. If anyone knows what they did in Mobile keep me posted. TeeHee. I feel so stupid saying TeeHee but that's the way pounding on this keyboard makes me feel when I am posting this kind of scuttlebutt. :-)

What kind of weight do you think I should ask him and his mate for?
9 Ball
One Pocket

How much should I play for?

JoeyA (taking a nap, now)

P.S. And Tony, don't start posting under an anonymous name what you think I should ask for. VBG

I think you should ask him if he will bet high and take the wild 8,
One pocket you probably only have to give him 2 balls those brits cant spell one packet.
As for Mobile sneeky feeling he is in Syracuse playing a Joss Event.
Is that right nice9,
Got to luv the mrs.

Tony, I had printed out JAM's weather report for you just in case the phone call rumor was true. OK now I have to call the pool hall to tell them their stinkin' rumors were just that. No need for a nap, now.

Thanks for the quick update.

GOOD LUCK IN SYRACUSE AND ANYWHERE ELSE YOU GO, MATE.

We will be having a small but nice tournament in New Orleans next month and you're invited along with your fellow patriots.
