Congratulations to Charlie Williams for putting up the Predator 10 Ball World Championship, which is the First World International Tournament of it's Class (10 Ball). Charlie is definitely stepping-up and keeping pool-billiards alive in the US and abroad after the IPT fiasco.
Twenty-two countries will participate in this event. They are: Aruba, Austria, Canada, Curacao, Dominque, England, Finland, France, Germany, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Russia, Spain, Sweden, and United States. Congratulations to all participants!
It is of my personal knowledge that Charlie Williams contacted World Federation Leaders to offer spots to their players before making the tournament public. I was one of the recipients. Three (3) entries were offered for CPB Countries (Central, South America and the Caribbean) before announcing the tournament to the media. We got four: Aruba, Curacao, Puerto Rico and Guatemala.
Players from Poland, Norway, Republic of China, Singapore, Korea, Italy, Philippines, Spain, England, Hungary, France, Sweden, Canada, USA, among others, were all possible invites.
I definitely thought this was an excellent choice to begin with if Dragon Promotions really wanted a true "International" field. I even went further a bit and translated, advertised, and offered all Spanish speaking countries from Mexico to Argentina (All Central, South American, and Caribbean countries) information about the event and to serve as their contact point with Dragon Promotions. It was the least that I could do.
Lots of people speculated or tried to ridicule Charlie on how the spots were distributed but I know how it all went along since I have the original message (and NO, I will not publish it).
Many of the players that ultimately signed up were not in the first published list of players but it did not mean they were not invited. They simply had not signed-up for whatever reasons.
Being a first event of this kind, it was also wise to limit the field to 96 players. Maybe next year 128 players will be the norm and who knows if the event could escalate to 256 players but this has to be taken one step at a time.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, the prize money is not significant but is sufficient for the players that have already signed up. Maybe next year more sponsorship could be obtained.
It all comes down to this: With the huge list of great international players, we just need for the tournament to begin. No need for speculations on whom did not get invited, or if this player is better than that one, etc., etc. It has been proven over the years, that someone might not have a household name but given the right opportunity, they will shine and ultimately make a name for themselves. The opportunity is now there, and the Championship is up for grabs. Let's all make the best out of this.
Once again I have to congratulate Charlie Williams, Dragon Promotions, and all sponsors and participants. I definitely have to publicly thank him for the opportunity given to all the International Pool Playing Community. We need Charlie Williams and Dragron Promotions regardless of what people may think.
May the best player win. Here is the list of the players:
