Iam fairly new to the 9 ball scene so just wondering what does it meen when someone says ..." you got the 8 or the 7 or 6 or whatever" ???

Generally when gambling, that's your 9 ball. If me and you are playing a race for a set amount, and I give you the 7 out, that's your money maker. I run 1-6, dog the 7 and you putt it in, you win. As where I would have to make the 9 to win. Catch my drift?

It just means that you are getting a handicap. In 9 ball the only ball that counts for a win is the 9. When they say you are getting the 8 or 7 or whatever that means those balls also count as a win for you.

I knew it was something to do with a spot obviously just didn't know what the terms were.... thanks guys

I still have trouble understanding the spots. I'm pretty new and I don't really gamble much, at most $10 sets of 10 ball against a guy at the hall and we play even up even though I almost always lose. It's a rare enough occurrence that I don't mind the small losses every now and then for the experience.

Anyway, if someone gives me the 7 in 9 ball I know I win if I make the seven. What if they make the seven and then miss on the 8? I still need to go to the 9 to win, correct?

Whereas if they give me the 7 and out under the same scenario then I would win by making the 8? Is that correct?

so say you are getting the 7 and they dog the 8 is that a win or do you then have to finish the 8 and 9 ???

lol jon I don't play with it trying to sell it if your interested I will take 1200 two shafts like new condition and ill take the 6 at heaths

If you're getting only the 7, and your opponent makes the 7, then dogs the 8, you still have to make the 8 and the 9 to win.

If you're getting the 7 out, that means you can make the 7, 8, or 9 at anytime to win.

If you're getting the last 3, that means your money ball is still the 9 or you need to make one of the last 3 balls on the table to win. Example: You break and make 7, 8, 3 on the snap. You miss your first shot and your opponent makes 1, 2, 4, and dogs the 5. On the table is the 5, 6, and 9. If you make the 5, you win. If you miss the 5 and he makes it only to miss the 6, you make the 6, you win.

If you get the 7 and the last 3, that means you have the 7 and 9 as money balls, plus the last 3 balls on the table as above.

That was exceedingly helpful, thank you! Especially the part about getting the last 3!

lol.. i'm just pumping your tires.

I wouldn't play with it either, that cue is to nice for a banger like me. Now, If it came with a couple Mezz shafts for $1200, i'd certainly change my tune.

I actually think that if you have more than 100 posts on this forum, and you DON'T know just about every gambling spot there is, you should be banned for a month till you learn LOL

I know all those and I play for $10 a few sets once a week max.

Hey, I can't help it if I'm man enough to just play even up all the time

Kidding of course. I really only gamble against one guy who's slightly better than me but it's close enough I prefer to play even. I probably win 1 out of 4 sets. It's good to have a better understanding now because I wouldn't mind playing some sets with others with the odds evened out on occasion.

I'm really not a gambler by nature, don't care for it much, only do it in pool to have a little something on the line to increase the pressure in hopes of it making me a better player. Never gamble on anything else.

I guess you guys aren't ready for one-pocket...
...I'm considering offering y'all two, hit, and the pick....
....and a hand span.
