Help Please. I have a 5 X 10 Brunswick Medalist 6 legged circa 1920 table that I am told could be turned into a 4 1/2 X 9. I live in Ridgewood, NJ and would love to know what is involved, the cost, and whether any of you would be interested in doing it? It has brand new rubber and brand new Simonis 860. Thank you

Holy Moses!!!

Wow! I WISH I could find (and afford) an original 5 x10 !!! Why not just sell it to someone who would appreciate it for what it is, and then buy a 4.5 x 9, instead of hacking up a table that can NEVER be replaced!

I agree! Please please don't do it!! Do you have room to play on it as is? I think for me personally, even if I had obstacles in the room, I'd still play on it until it gets sold and then buy another table. Maybe you can make your room bigger instead of making the table smaller? :D

I agree. What a shame. Plus you will probably be disappointed. There's very few that really know how to do this. Way too many 10' tables have been cut especially 3 Cushion tables. I was just talking to Don Brink in Raytown MO about him wanting another 10' Big Bertha. The Medialist would be close. My point is there's people out there that will take it off your hands.

I replied to this when you posted in the mechanics section.

If you have to do this, call Blatt's in NYC. But I wouldn't.

This is easy:

1)Sell the 5 X10.

2)Buy a 4 1/2 X 9.

A table like that should be preserved, not cut up....jmho. Do as you wish.

Thanks for the advice, but when I was at the Back to Billiards Expo in Baltimore this past August, there was an antique table restorer who was the first to tell me that for about $2500 I could have the table made smaller, especially since there is no market for 5 X 10's these days. My table is also the 6 legged, not the 4 legged Medalist, lots of inlays, etc. It is quite frustrating to go to a pool room, run lots of balls, then come home and try to play on a very large table with small pockets. I never asked Blatt about the conversion, although they are the ones who recovered the table with Simonis 860 and replaced the 90 year old rubber. I am told that Blatt sells these for up to $35,000. I would love to get $10,000 for it, if anyone has any thoughts. Anything over $10,000 is yours, even if you sell it for $20,000.

Why

Why would you want to take it down to a 9'? If I could play on a 10' every day it would make me that much better! I would keep it a 10' table!

Back in the days of Cochrans in SF you had to get on a list to play on one of the 5X10s. What a shame to think of plastic surgery on such a beautiful piece of history. Sell it to someone who wants it and buy a Gold Crown.

Why would you want to?

Would it be worth keeping the table if you had the cushions cut to make the pockets bigger? That could be a cheaper and less permanent solution. :)

Put it up in the for sale section of the forum. Im sure someone will probably pick it up.

OK y'all. You got me. I won't have it made smaller. Any buyers out there?

Poz, An original 5 x 10 has ALWAYS been my dream table, since that was what I grew up shooting on.:D If only I had the money I would have taken that table off your hands YESTERDAY, in a New York Minute, but divorce has a way of shrinkin' your bank account to bar box size REAL quick!

I'm sure there are other fans of 10 footers, like myself out there, that have the money to buy such a great table. Try Ebay, try posting on various billiard web sites. Hell, maybe even Blatt's can sell it for you, OR one of the New York auction houses like Sotherby's. That way maybe you can get what it truly is worth.;)
