cool forearm wood...can you identify it?

Here's a forearm of very rare wood that will make a distinctive looking cue. I'll have a buttsleeve to match soon too. I'm of the opinion that the cue should probably be a merry widow, with slotted rings in all positions and a wrap. This figure is very uncommon in this wood species. Can anyone identify it for fun? It came from the Kent Davis shop in a horsetrade.
