I have no clue how much better, or if it even is better to use one designed for cutting wood. I've had mine for about 12 years now and when I ordered it they said that a wood cutting profile would be ground onto it's nose. I do know I've been very happy with it and have bored many, many pieces of wood successfully. This is a good price as I paid more than this price 12 years ago.

Dick, the drill cuts nicely even though it has a metal profile. I cored several handles and fronts this morning, using my Jacobs chuck in the tail-stock, all under hand pressure. The core was smooth and accomplished with human powered tail-stock.
