Corey Deuel plays Russian pyramid (with commentary)!

Very slow game, it has no future! fast games are the way to go for TV and non-pool players to watch, call me crazy but I think 7ball would resurrect pool into the TV scene and bring money to the game, I know no one will try that, but that's what I think.

I really enjoyed the 7 ball matches on ESPN in the early 2000s

14.1 is called Long pyramid or Pyramid with continuation or something like that. It is usually played using Free pyramid rules - any ball can be used as a cue ball, so it offers far more options on every shot.

Actually in pyramid players usually count longest runs across multiple innings until the first miss. So if you break, runout, then opponent breaks, misses, you take turn and runout - they says it was 16 ball run, so these numbers apply both to Long pyramid and Free pyramid (which are standard frames to 8 pocketed balls).

And for top players the average run in Free pyramid is about 5. There are numerous 20-30 ball runs.

Yes, you heard it right! They play to 5 frames and manage to break and run in 4 of them even with pockets like these. This is what "any ball as a cue ball" rules allows you to do. Really fascinating!

Thanks for the link and I’ll be watching it shortly.
I always Like to watch pyramid...the size of table and small pockets make it different visually...nothing is a given.
I also noticed the women play with the rules that every ball can be used as the cue ball, while the Men 0ay the more traditional rules.
The women’s game moves faster and I assume it isn’t used with the men because the games would be over really fast, since their runs are more.

There is a Russian girl and a Ukrainian girl that play lights out and I usually the late stages and finals.
I always liked how the Kremlin Cup has pool and pyramid side by side.

Now if only I could find an actual Russian billiards table to give it a try.

.

This must have been a simple coincidence. These are different games - in Free pyramid any ball is a CB, in Combined pyramid - only colored one is CB. Combined is far more popular - played about 80% of times, but both are played by men and women from time to time.

I have friends from Ukraine, and when we get together after a few hours of pool, we switch to a modified Free pyramid rules where every ball is a cue ball but you can only score a point off a carom. Anything else and the ball gets spotted back up. It’s actually kind of fun and brings some beautiful shots into play.

I have a 10 foot gold crown and it’s really fun to play this Modified free pyramid on it.

Yeah, it's a pity most cue games don't feature carom scoring.

People say it would be too easy with large pockets, but to bring the difficulty back to insane pyramid level we can add a simple rule - you must pocket both OB and CB in one shot to score. Miss any ball and both are respotted.
