Coring motor suggestion?

I have one of Bassel's cue building lathes with a 1/2HP DC motor. I'm looking for suggestions on what size and brand of motor I should upgrade to for coring. I've been told its possible to core with the 1/2HP motor but very time consuming and annoying that the motor stops constantly and the need reset the controller a bunch I times. What's smallest size I should use and what would be ideal? Thanks in advance!

I have a hightower deluxe and I use a 1/2 hp 1725 rpm AC motor for coring. With the pulleys I have, I core at about 900 rpm.

The DC motor just won't do it.

So there's that much of a difference between AC and DC motor with the same HP Kim?

Not on paper. But the DC motor has a controller that has an internal thermal circuit breaker that will trip under heavy load like coring. Mine tripped out every 1 to 2 minutes. AC motors get warm but then don't keep stopping.
