I sent the original owner (a bookstore) an e-mail. Here was their response :

"Thank you so very, very much for your kind e-mail. It is especially meaningful to us as today is the 4th anniversary of the day my wife & I started our "retirement" business of selling books on the internet.

We acquired Cornbread Red on November 14, 2006 from the Friends of the Library bookstore in Mission Viejo, California. Mission Viejo is in south Orange County and is approximately mid way between San Juan Capistrano (the place with the mission where the swallows come back every year on St. Joseph's Day) and Irvine.

I was in Detroit at a tournament and was looking thru the display case. I thought I might buy a copy of that book before I leave this weekend. I turned around and there was Cornbread. I bought the book and had him sign it right then. After reading it, I put it in a plastic bag. Just like most of my pool books I have bought, it didn't take long to read. Once I start, I have trouble stopping. Sam

Don't, repeat, DON'T put books you care about in plastic bags and leave them there. Plastic bags are one of the worst things you can keep books in. If nothing else, put them on shelves, upright, keep them out of sunlight and dust them once in awhile. I've dabbled in the used/rare book trade for over twenty years. The best thing would be to wrap an inert plastic such as Mylar over the book like a dust jacket or over the jacket itself in the case of a hard cover.

The bag isn't sealed, it is kind of a dust cover. I thought that would be the best way to keep it out of the dust zone and it's in a pretty controlled environment right next to my desk. Thanks again for the info. Sam
