Could PAUL NEWMAN pull off another Blockbuster Sequel as "Fast" Eddie Felson

I own both the Hustler, & Color of Money on VHS. Plus every time they are on the Tube, I watch em.

I am wondering if the Character "Fast" Eddie Felson could make a re appearance on the Silver Screen, and product another GREAT POOL MOVIE?

I have an idea for a plot, as this time "Fast" Eddie Felson is REAL DOWN, and Out.

He climbs out of the bottle and take himself on the Road in Year 2006. With just a few bucks in his pockets, a Cue Stick, and an Greyhound Ride America Pass visiting some small town at first to build up his Bank Roll.

After winning a few bucks he buys Wheels, goes on to bigger and better towns. Visiting some of the Famous pool room that still are operating.

Than hear of the IPT, and than he goes on to victory joining the IPT. YADA YADA YADA.

Winner or not a good Idea?
:D :D

Jet Li as the BAD GUY HUSTLER from Taiwan thrashing Tom Cruise Character so bad Cruise had to Pawn the Bushka ... Newman promptly hunts downs the Oriental menace and final showdown in UK embassy world championships..

Here is how it should go;
Paul Newman plays an aging room owner...

Tom Cruise is a still strong but fading tournament/road warrior.
Vincent takes a new protege under his wing. The protege shows great potential but never finds himself a winner. Vincent spends time showing him some patterns and building his confidence. The two go on the road and stumle, by chance into Fast Eddies room...

Notes;

Eddie would be wiser than ever.

Vincent would still have a lot of talent, but maybe a vice that distracts him, from playing championship level.

The new kid would make it to new heights that, Eddie and Vincent had not yet been able to go.

actually, more of a sad idea, imo :):):)

give newman a rest and enjoy canning applesauce :)

I love both those movies. And I know everyone hates Tom Cruise now, but it 1986, he was awesome in that movie. Not that I want to see HIM do another pool movie today. Paul Newman could do one a year, and I would see them all though. Its always been a dream to shoot a few racks with the old guy.

And yes to Jackie Gleason. As an actor, they used to call him the master. I saw an old 60 minutes interview with him at his house. They were playing pool. The interviewer asked him what he thought of being called 'the master'. His response... 'you just saw me play pool, didnt you?'. They broke the mold with him.

Poolhall Junkies was alright. If I wasnt into pool, I dont think I could have watched it. Mars, the guy that wrote it is a big fan of pool apparently, and likes to play. I give him credit for making a dream happen. And getting Christopher Walken! I find it difficult to say anything bad about someones dream.

I did like Rick Schroder in PHJ. Perhaps a sequal, by a different writer, director etc... about him. He wasnt amazing in PHJ, but Im also a big fan of NYPD Blue, and thought he did a great job on that show. I think he could make a good pool movie. He has that jaded thing down.

And Ive said this in another thread, but if you want to make a great pool movie (for pool players anyway, dont know about the general population), make the book Playing Off the Rail a movie. Love that book. Dont know how many times Ive read it.

Paul Newman as "Fast Eddie Felson" takes a twenty-five year old female under his wing that shoots a mean game of pool but would rather hangout in dance clubs. Trying to keep her out of clubs and in the poolroom and the guys away from her and vice a versa could add a little comedy, romance/ sex to it. ( not sure who would play her)

The goal is to make her good enough for the new twenty-five million dollar women’s pool tour staked by an aging cosmetics queen( Goldie Hawn ) that made her early money as a call girl and later a madam that Newman knows from his early hustling days.

More conflict could be she is the daughter of the head of the mob family in whatever state the movie takes place. Naturally the crime boss doesn’t want her playing pool and doesn’t like Newman helping her. Johnnyt.

Pffft, my plot is way better than all of yours. Fast Eddie decides to take up pool once again, and he gets back in stroke and starts beating everyone. Then he runs into Fast Larry who runs 74 racks of 9-ball on him, and the whole movie switches to focusing on Larry, who at the end of the movie gets the nobel peace prize.

While Paul Newman is a National Treasure.....He's getting up there and I don't even know if he's still acting let alone racing cars.......

He'd have to own a nice club......he had the liquor connects and the pool connects ....plus he looks good dressed up ala "The Sting"

So he's a successful club owner and a new "Vincent" starts working his club and his granddaughter. Newman who has put his cue in the case for the last time must get it out and beat the kid down in an attempt to drive him away. In the end Newman sees he's not a bad boy and helps him win the big tourney.......Cheesy with a lot of great felt action and gratuitous nudity and you have box office winner.......Add a gay love interest for Newman and you have a sure fire Oscar Winner....:eek:

Sadly "THE GREAT ONE" is gone. Gleason was a Great Actor also, and one heck of a Businessman. Newman is still here living in CT.

Think he got one more GREAT Pool Movies in him....:)
