Pressure from the type of glue/epoxy used! That's my guess!

Same thing happened to me with my Huebler years ago. Replaced the shaft once, and the collars twice. Eventully gave up and put the cue to bed. I would be interested to hear any explanation as well.

What kind of collar?
Did the repairman thread them or pressfit hammer them?

All depends on the material used for the collar. Most foreign and many U.S. manufacturers, including Meucci and I believe Huebler, don't use phonelics but a multi-polymer plastic that cracks easly. Same stuff as model airplane plastic. If the cue goes from a drier to a more humid atmosphere it will swell and a m/p type plastic can not hold it.

the solvents in the finish attack that material, if applied to heavy / quick the plastic suffers, the old cuemaker himself told me this. the plastics look good but as with most things there are tradeoffs.

humidity and temp change were not a factor ,,,,,,,,,,,,the cue was in my shop, in a case, in my darkroom,,,,,,,,,,,,well controled enviroment

however it is an old Buddy Hall model #4 meucci

Not uncommon on some makes. The plasitic seems to crack over time. I have done a few repairs on them, both old & new. Sometimes the glue just comes loose, and the sleeves just come off. those are usually easy fixes, but the cracked ones are alittle more involved.
