I've been sweatin' some crazy action for the past 14 hours. Check it out:
Tater was giving this guy the 5, 7, 8, 9 and the break. Five ahead for $1,000 (nine ball)
Pancake was giving the same guy the 7, 8, 9 playing five ahead for $1,000. (nine ball)
They were taking turns playing sets against the guy.
No one could quit unless they were up $2,000
In other words, they had to win both sets to get the cash and so did he.
This guy couldn't run two balls. I swear to God he sucked really bad. I think I could've spotted him.
Scooter was also in for an additional $1,000 a set. He was side betting the guy but not playing.
They were still playing when I left and were down two sets. (For a total of $2,000)
The guy had half the rack as money balls against Tater. He literally had a 45% chance of winning on the break. And he did it a lot. He rolled a money ball every chance he got. It was kinda funny.
Tater plays jam up. He's also fun to watch.

Hennessee and Frost (I think it was Frost) played the night before for like 12 hours and Frost came out 1 set ahead. I don't know what they played or for how much.

Hennessee is supposed to play Johnny Archer tonight on a big table. I don't know what the spot is, but I heard it's going to be for some serious cash. I was so tired I was afraid to stay any longer and not be able to drive home.

Oh yeah. I forgot. I finally got to see Sarah Rousey play. Man she's gorgeous. Anyway, she played this fat woman using a Meucci Crown Jewel or whatever you call it. She sucked really bad. She accused Sarah of moving an extra score "thingy" or something like that. I was about 10 feet from them, but couldn't get the low down. Sarah finally moved her "thingy" back. She still smoked the fat chick like 7-2. I didn't get a chance to introduce myself to her. She plays a fine game.

As of about 8pm Bobby Pickle, Mike Blevins, Johnny Archer, and others are still in the tournament. I can't remember them all.

Rare cue dude had a gorgeous Schon 8 point that I fell in love with. He tried to trade me even for my Schon LTD, but I just couldn't do it.

Hal, was Brandon Ashcraft there?
Yeah, I didn't see him playing though.

BTW the cue raffle this year is an Alex Brick custom made to your specs. $1,000 limit. That's pretty cool.

Hey Hal,
Did you happen to hear the name of the, as you say, "fat chick"?

No. I probably should not have used the term "fat chick", but she seemed to have an attitude problem, and it rubbed me the wrong way as I watched her play.

I apologize if she's a friend or kin to anyone here.

Hey thanks for the action report Hal, excellent work!

BTW, Let me know how Pancake and Tater come out, Pancake is a buddy of mine.

If he's your buddy then ask him yourself. I'm not going back today.

While Pancake was playing his set, Tater was playing K.C. from Chattanooga $100.00 nine ball on the 9 footer. I don't know what happened, but K.C. got mad and left. They eventually call him back and tell him that Tater will play him $200.00 a game, but they never played.

Scooter played some $300.00 one pocket with a rather large man. He quit after 2 or 3 games, saying something like, "I didn't know who he was" or "I didn't know" or something like that.

hennessee and archer

archer was about 1 second from playing... but he didnt... the game was archer gives hennessee the seven and the last two... 8 ahead for either 5 or 10k ... but it never happend... johnny was to concerned about the tourney... and he's past all that crap... frost and hennessee played from 2:00 am until 10:00 am .. race to 13 for 1k ... the split 3 times before frost came out two ahead... nick vita busted three guys that i know of.. then gave it all back side betting... don't bet on a horse you aint riding... especially if you are better than the horse

Thanks for that sweet report, Hal. Keep them coming.

My JOB story:

I grew up in Nashville, TN. I primarily played in Antioch, but on special occasions I would make the treck to JOB's.

One year, I believe it was 1995 (I was 17 years old) there was a ton of action at the Camel Pro Tour event. I remember watching two bookies flipping a quarter for $2000 a flip with two local bookies. There were others pitching quarters for huge sums of money. There was a 7 ahead matchup between two guys not much older than me for $2000. Needless to say, I was in awe and having a blast watching everything.

I happened to be sitting next to the two bookies who were loosing their quarter flipping contest. During this I also learned some of the psychology of gambling. These guys were down 10 flips ($20,000) and they were paying up after every flip. Well, the guy quits (while chuckling) and says, "You ain't gonna bust me at this! I got $100K back in the hotel and we can continue this later." Now remember, I'm sitting there watching (with others) but keeping my lips zipped (and I do have my case with me). Then this pool player walks buy who was a great local player. The guy sitting next to me yells at him, "Hey, why don't you play this guy (points at me...and he doesn't know me from Adam) some $5000 sets of 9 ball." The guy just looks at me (he doesn't know me) and back at the guy and says, "No." The guy then looks at me and says, "Could you have beat him?" I said, "No." He then says, "I knew he wouldn't play anyhow. I just wanted to mess with him." Later on I saw him proposition Nick Varner for some golf..but they couldn't come to an agreement.

Those tournaments were a fun time. I remember watching Nick Varner gamble at one pocket with some guy for 4 or 5 hours into the morning in the big room. I was the only other person there, and I just sat there quietly watching the masters at work. I was a fly on the wall, and they didn't care at all. Nick was the epitome of concentration. Nobody ever questioned my age because I knew how to conduct myself and I got there early enough in the day that it didn't matter. I didn't see Nick lose ONE game. I think they were playing for $100 a game. Not a fortune..but enough to make you think.

I have lots of JOB stories. That is just a quick one.

I got to sit and chat it up with Tony Fargo for about an hour or so. I watched him and Cliff Joyner play one pocket several years ago for 600.00 a game. They played for like 30 hours or something like that.

Hey Hal,
No problem, I just happen to know a "fat chick", with an attitude.
Just wanted to know if it might have been her.
