Crazy Teams in League

Where'd my stroke go?

The league I play in is pretty tame and most of the teams get along well, but the few times I've played in the Tri-cups and other wide-area tourneys, I keep seeing teams that are just bat-$%!# crazy.

In one of our matchups, the final match came down to their 8 vs. our 2 and the 8 was on a huge roll, running out from everywhere. Finally he gets to the last five points and we're all ready to pack up and go home, when all of a sudden, their captain calls a time out on a straight in stop-shot. The player was like WTF, and the captain walks over gives him a drink of water and pats him on the back.

Of course, the guy then misses the shot by half a diamond, gets the shakes for the rest of the match and our 2 ended up winning. Talk about sharking your own teammate!

Another time, I saw another team where players that lost their matches would get a verbal lashing, a slap in the face and be forced to kneel on the ground for the rest of the match... I stayed far away from those crazies.

I'm sure you guys have lots of stories of wacky league teams too, so let's hear it!

Probably captain was letting him know it is time to sandbag or it will mess up some handicap issue.

My female-captained APA team went to Vegas and played a team of men who appeared to be of Arabic heritage.
Most of them were cool guys, but the captain LOST. HIS. SHT. because he didn't want to deal with a woman. I think his behavior sharked the hell out of his whole team, they lost really bad. He turned a complaint in on our team for being unsportsmanlike, but nothing came of it. I think the officials saw all of his teammates behind him shaking their heads or something.

Yes, wacky teams can be annoying and distracting. I've been on one or two. It sucks when my own team members are acting like children and annoying the other team while also annoying me when I'm trying to focus and win a tough match. I find it's usually lower handicap players that act this way. Not always I suppose.

II've seen people get mad,,really madd from missing a ball or losing a game.

1 guy packed his stuff up and left early,,leaving their team with no one to play in his spot. And was *****ing the whole way out!

Seen a guy break his stick,, and was kicked off the team on the spot.

None of this on my team,,but over the past 20 years Ive seen some weird chit.

Several guys punch their own team mate out,,,in the face,,for watching too close I guess. I really don't recall now,why this happened but it was some violent punches!!

I had a guy swung at me ,,,for beating him!! He swung ,,missed me ,and broke my pool stick in half!!! He got kicked off league and LO paid me with his winnings for my pool stick. He had enough money coming because the league was almost over.

Just recently a girl missed a ball against my team mate. And she was pissed,,all 100 lbs of her. And with a terrible attitude,,decided to flip him off while he shot the game. And talking smack to him the whole time. Like it was his fault!! She actually followed him around the table behind him ,,flipping him off with both hands!!!

Just picture that for a moment!! Her own captain finally had enough and kicked her off the team and then she was banned from league later by the LO. We never said a thing to anyone about it. It was a terrible sight in a bar full of people!!

Some people take this league play WAY too serious!! Or maybe rotten people show their ass for almost any reason!!( Might not have anything to do with pool)

Bitc**es be crazy

Hey Uncle Ted
We got one of these crazy bitc**es in our VNEA league.
Couple months ago, I played safe a few times on her, then dumped the last game to her because we had already won the round (plus our team is tired of given up 7 - 10 pts per rd every stinking wk) So last night she lines herself against me, I win 1st 2 sets, 3rd set I break run out to last ball & foul, gave her ball in hand with a wide open table. The crazy B*****h shots the 8 ball straight into the corner pocket then says '' there you go, you can have the 30 pts for tonight''. Bad part about this is, her team was only 3 pts behind in the rd with 1 game left for the night. We get paid in our league by rds won at the end of each season. We ended up winning the rd by 2 pts. My team mates all said to her after the match ''hey next time we play can you shoot me'' She never even gave it a thought , just was so pi$$ed at me from the last time we played. Her loss my gain & more money for my team at the end of the season.

Especially VNEA bitc**s, and don't get me started on VNEA captain bitc**s that don't even play pool

I'll never understand this lol. I've played against some really serious teams and once seen a guy break his cue over his knee after losing but other than that nothing like some of you have seen lol. I know some of you play some higher money leagues or in APA case a chance to go to Vegas but to me leagues have always been practice for tournaments. I do get pissed at myself when I shoot bad but it's because I'm shooting bad. I've never once got mad a teammate and I don't get mad if someone beats me. I shake their hand and say good game and go cry in my corner if I shot bad.

We shoot VNEA and I average around an 8 and there was a night that a guy with a 4 average ran the table on me ( It was a pretty table) and a couple of my teammates btched because he only has a 4 average and ran a table. I told them he played a good game shook his hand and told him keep it up. He was super excited and told me it was his first ero and I congratulated him and bought him a beer.

Some people take league wayyy to serious.

You can sometimes witness a little drama in our league, but nothing too crazy that I've seen yet. Mostly some nitty bickering about calling a pocket or a foul called for touching an OB, etc. I have seen a guy break his cue over his knee just because he hooked himself in the midst of a run. Some take losses too hard, but fortunately, most in our league are pretty good sports.

I think the captain knew the guy was a big choker whose arm typically falls off before he
shoots a money ball.
There was one precious time out left, and he didn't want to waste it.
The guy was going to miss anyway, the captain just gave him the dreaded vote of
confidence.

or it could of been a straight up sandbag move, you never know about this league crap.

I don't have too much of a crazy story. Just a team that beat us by one ball at the end of day 5 at Nationals in 2011 was a real piece of work.

FOUR players on the watch list. A lady that started as a 1 was now a 3 by the time we played her, two 5's had started as 4's and their captain signed up as a 5 and was a 7 when we played them.

There had been at least three formal complaints made against them and all the other team captains were teaming up to follow them around and warn their opponents (us). We just played our game and did quite well. It was match 3 when their captain finally figured out the judge was score keeping their match (he only kept track of their players, nothing on his paperwork about us at all or a full scoresheet).

After the match we were prevented from leaving the tournament room while they debated. SEVENTY minutes later an official announcement comes out that they have been disqualified and that we are to play in 5 minutes.

Their very WT player actually took a swing at one of the tournament directors before security took him out.

The worst part was that we had to skip our dinner to wait, then they only gave us 5 minutes to shoot so I had to beg for even a 15 minute break so players could use the restrooms and get a bite to eat.... Before the 11 pm match lagged at 12:25 in the morning. We lost and were dead tired.

I thought this team was unique, not in what they did, but in their names.

Jimmy Johnson
Jerry Johnson
Johnny Johnson
Jimmy Johnson Jr
some other friend of the family.

Norfolk, NE in 1985/86

Probably captain was letting him know it is time to sandbag or it will mess up some handicap issue.

Normally that would make sense, but this was to advance to the semis of the tournament, with a huge difference in prize money between winning and losing, so not really a place to be sandbagging...

Of course, if that's what it was, then I'm pretty glad they did it ;)
