What I learned for me.
I look at the shot at hand and see if it is 30 degrees, I then determine the distance from the CB to the OB and it is just an inch away or so, I shoot it with CTE.
If the distance is 2 diamonds I shoot it like it is a 25 degree cut or CTE with some outside english.
If the distance is 4 diamonds, I shoot it like it is a 20 degree cut or CTE with maximum outside english.
This is just me on a dirty table with dirty balls.
