Congrats Joey on the fine finish this weekend. I was another that took lessons from Stan last October. I learned his Pro One/CTE with an open mind. I had read some of the threads concerning aiming systems but did not really pay attention. I was able to understand the aiming system fairly quickly and it does work. I have played competitive pool for years as an amateur and really don't have too many issues pocketing balls. It's the other issues that slow me down
For me, Pro One is a tool. Some people use the system exclusively such as Stan or Landon. I have had good success using it on certain shots that I don't "see" very well using my experience as my primary aiming method. I know that the system works but sometimes I think people want a magic pill that will improve their game. But in reality, it takes hard work, patience, and constant desire to improve to get better IMHO. Not to mention, rock solid fundamentals. It doesn't matter how you aim if you can't get your cue through the cue ball on target.
Dardusm,
Like you, I have been using CTE/Pro One but not always. In recent days, especially since one particular post of Stan's hit my hot button, I have been using it exclusively. It seems that the more I learn about it the more I want to use it, primarily because of the results it seems to provide me with.
No it's not a silver bullet and all of the things you mentioned are critical to success and everything comes at a price but your post gave me pause. I thought CTE/Pro One might be able to help my game. Now, I am psoitive it is helping my game.
These are the things that seem to be improved:
Alignment
Accuracy
Focus
Enjoyment
I've added the enjoyment factor because I think when you have been playing as long as I have, you forget the joy of warping a ball in the hole with abandon, or thinning a ball almost frozen to the rail. It goes without saying that my enjoyment fuels my enthusiasm to play longer and work on my game in general.
But only the tournament trail can prove these things. Hope to see you there. It's a funny thing. Normally, I wouldn't post such things because basically I like to keep a low profile on what I'm doing and where I'm going with my game just in case someone tries to test my mettle.
I'm not ready for the Smooth Criminal just yet........
For the Calcutta buyers: Caveat Emptor.
For the Tournament players: Caveat Actor.
