Cuball leaving marks....

I thought I read somewhere that the Aramtith "measles" ball won't leave marks on your table, is that true?

I'm going to have to say no. I wouldn't know why they wouldn't leave a mark just like any other ball.

Intuitively it doesn't make sense. Burn marks are caused by friction which produces heat and leaves the mark. I've heard that the new Tournament balls have a new resin which supposedly does reduce burn marks though. I have a set on order so we'll see about that. I'm certainly hopeful it's true. Perhaps Aramith will begin producing the measles CB with this new resin but I don't believe they do yet.

BTW, I have a measles ball that I use often with my Cents and I do have burn marks around the table, primarily from hard draw shots since these produce a lot of friction at the point of impact.

something else to consider:

- the tip may matter a little when it comes to leaving marks... The really hard tips (like the phenolic ones) cause a hotter spot at the point of impact, it apparently can even leave little scorch marks in the ball in rare cases (probably depending on the ball, tip, and breaker). There was a thread with photos showing this not too long ago.

Not too much of a stretch to imagine hotter contact point = more visible scorch mark on the table.

- simonis HR cloth may resist marking better, though that's a much pricier investment than a new cue ball.
