Cue Acceleration - Thoughts?

Well if you want to get technical, it's neither. It's 'cue ball.' There is no official abbreviation for cue ball, so it might as well be QB.

I played in a pool room every day for 7 years called the Golden Q. As far as I can tell, nobody corrected them.

I believe the "Golden Q" is a line to use the urinal.

Nah. Not in New York City.

But I digress....

If you're going to take someone to task, at least make it meaningful --- especially since you're responding in the 'Ask the Instructor' forum.

Well technically if we were rolling the ball 100% of the time, we wouldn't need an acceleration in the stroke at all. We could even decelarate and it wouldn't matter as long as we're precise in our aiming. We accelerate to generate the action required on the cueball.

Technically, this is incorrect. The amount of spin in relation to the speed we get on the cue ball is determined by how far off center we hit the cue ball. The amount of each is proportional to how fast the cue stick is moving at the time of contact. Having significant acceleration at the time of impact is nearly irrelevant to what the cue ball will do -- the stick speed and tip placement is 99% dominant.
