Cue ball

Some of our local league players take their own cue balls to the bar boxes. I know this practice causes some controversy and I know we all wish every bar box used matching cue balls. I know there are various solutions to the different cue ball problem. My question is how wide spread is the practice of league players bringing their own cue balls. Do they do it where you live? If not, why not.
Thanks

If bars around here would polish their balls weekly this may not happen. I wish I could bring in my set from home.
Anyone ever see a cue ball with a lightening bolt on it? Local bar has one, never seen that logo?
Thanks

Cue Ball

I personally carry an Aramith pro cup measles ball in my case. I will use it when the tables are opened up so I dont have to pay to get it back when i scratch. It is also an exelent training tool for your stroke and position play because you can better see the action on the ball and where it ends up.

That being said I do not use it for tournaments when everyone else is using a mud ball. I can definitly tell a differance in the weight of the balls. I just wish it would become some type of law or something to where the only tables used in tournaments were diamonds lol. That would solve the problem but will never happen.

I carry a red dot wherever I go with my case. Most time in league people play with a red dot but its up to the home team. Sometimes if the home team isn't that good they insist on not playing with it so they can get some kind of advantage over us ! lol !

In the leagues I have played in we always change cue balls either provided by the house or personal balls. Has never been an issue.

What controversy are you talking about? Maybe I missed that one. Around here, everybody does it. If you haven't yet seen the difference between oversized barbox cueballs, heavy similar-sized cueballs and the logo cueballs, you're in for a real surprise.

The oversized is an absolute pain. The heavy ball is like breaking magic.. just remember that it draws.. uhh.. with great effort. And then the logo ball works closest to a red dot/circle/triangle/etc.

Pretty much everybody in San Diego APA uses the Aramith red circle (dunno the official name). I carry around an Aramith pro cup just for grins, but it's just enough different from the red circle that people complain about it. The measle ball is probably the second most popular here, but some players claim it makes them seasick, so we generally go with the red circle.

I don't know any team that plays with the house ball if they can help it. Some of our teams bring a complete set of balls so they don't have to use any of the house balls.

Guess we should count ourselves fortunate in these parts as most of the bars and taverns here keep the regulation sized CB behind the bar for strictly tournaments and league play....mud ball goes back on for regular play. Of course, most of these establishments also open their tables for us, so retrieving the smaller CB is not a problem. Then again...we also have 8ft bar boxes in all the bars and taverns.

So, no...it is not typically seen here where I live...which has a very active pool scene.....probably because it rains 9 months outta the year here...LoL!
