cue case building?

hi guys, i have some questions. i have some access to black dyed leather (dyed all the way trough the leather - i don't know how to name properly it, in german it would be 'durchgefärbt') and i want to ask if i can tool that and dye it with other colours as well? like in john's: http://www.jbcases.com/hotrod.html...

and if you use the 'looping technique' like in that case (the egdes of the two sides face each other) do you sew the leather together and than insert the tubes?

thanks, felix

It depends on the type of leather it is. Chrome tanned leather won't hold a hand stamped impression well and it's not pliable enough to carve it. You jsut have to try on a small piece.

To add color you can only paint on top of the leather, you can't dye it any other color.

The Hotrod began life as natural light tan tooling leather and the flames were carved and dyed and then the rest of the leather was dyed black around the color.

The lacing was done before the tube was inserted. The way we do it is to make the seam overlap. We skive the two pieces so that they overlap like a puzzle piece. This helps the seam lay down better and works better than placing the edges end to end.

Muss plus probieren :-)
