Cue Case Question

I have read the various posts about Justis cases, Murnak cases, Whitten cases, etc. I will be in the market for a "SPECIAL" case sometime next year as I hit the half century mark.

In the interim, does anyone have any opinions on Bentley cases? I realize these probably aren't the quality of those listed above, do these actually provide reasonable protection considering the price, etc on Fleabay.

Note I currently carry an Instroke Buffalo 3x5 model. How would you say the Bentleys compare with Instrokes.

Bentley cases compare to Instroke like Audiovox speakers do to Bose.

Going from Instroke to Bentley is a major step down.

What do mean by special? Decoration, protection? If it's decoration then go to www.jbcases.com and choose among the makers listed at the bottom of the page. They can all outfit you with special.
 
The leather on a Bentley is second rate, no question about it. Your Instroke case is higher quality. If you want heavy, thick, high quality leather with great workmanship, IMHO get a Murnak. Unfortunately, you may wait longer than quoted for it. Justis cases are lighter and have very pretty workmanship, but still built for stout. Jack is very prompt about filling orders. Whitten cases are constructed of great leather, but come up short in the appearance/design dept. to me, but some love 'em..Tom

By special I am looking for something that is HIGH quality, looks good, extremely functional, and more importantly provides protection. I currently have an Instroke that I am more than happy with but it is like other instrokes. I guess this means the other criteria is something that is personalized for me.

I've looked at the Justis website, jbcase site, murnak, whitten, etc. I like the looks on all of these.

John by all means your site has the best looking case (ie basket case) I've seen. I did send you an e-mail with some questions about building a similar case.

I really like the functionality of the Murnak cases. He seems to give the ability to choose options with examples that really tailor a quality case. The pocket options are incredible.

I have touched and held one of the Justis cases and the quality is outstanding. The straps alone tell the case should last a lifetime to be passed down to my kids. While the 3x6 is advertised that way I like the option of occasionally using it as a 4x8 IF needed. The weight is another factor.

By special I am looking for something for my fiftieth birthday that is another milestone in itself. I was really set on a Justis but now I see other choices that have me second guessing a little. I just wish I could see the others in real life to compare....:rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

If your looking for a special case, then look for John Barton the former Instroke owner and designer. His carvings are just outstanding and has the same or better protection as an Instroke had. John posts here also. Here's his website address, http://www.jbcases.com/ Check him out for something real special. :D
 
I recommend OnQ and Jack Justis.....

OnQ has every option you can think of and has great customer service...
IMO the best of the lessor known case makers

Jack Justis' name speaks for itself....
 
Cases

I would consider Ron Thomas, Jim Murnak, Jack Justis, and John Barton cases at first glance.

Overtooled cases look like Paisley wallpaper, nice, but awful busy.
I, personally, don't care for overly stiff pockets, so that puts Justis and Barton cases in question for me?

Ron Thomas has 2 cases, I really like the looks of with exotic leather, but the cost might be a factor there.

Jim Murnak Vintage line I like, unique pockets, don't look too stiff, nice looking cases, well made, and I would probably go with one of his overall, but I would not be looking for a 'tuxedo' looking case, just a good nice looking 'casual' overall looking case.

I don't think anyone over 50 should carry a 4 x 8, the weight alone will wear on you. I had a Porper 4 x 8 back in my 40's, and after carrying it everywhere in Vegas for 10 days, my shoulder was extremely sore, but Porper cases leave something to be desired in the way of shoulder straps.

In case you're wondering, I carry a 3 x 5 case now, and it is the perfect size for me, for options vs. size and weight.

So, in summary, I would probably go with Murnak, but if I wanted a little more 'eye candy', I would go with Ron Thomas exotic leather case.
