Cue Collecting Software

Would like to know what those who collect cues use to inventory our collection?
looking for a software package that is built for cue collecting.

I don't think such a software exists but anyone can make one on a spreadsheet. You just have to go back and check off items sold.

I can make one. Tell me what you want.

Not sure if there is any cue-specific software, but I'm sure there's plenty of general inventory software available where you can input the criteria you want....in essence convert it to cue software based on your needs.

I used to inventory my cues for insurance. I would batch them by case number using 12 X 24 cases, then used Excel with name, model number, condition, date acquired, price paid, repairs/imprvements, approximate market value, date and proceeds from sale if made. Then I would photograph the cues by the same batched case number (12X24's) in order and keep the inventory on password protected private pages on my web site.

It helps to keep track of costs etc. For large collectors there is an off-chance that income from selling cues may come up in a tax audit. In that case, you may have to justify acquisition and repair costs. Profits from collectibles are taxed at some pretty high rates. Some collectors do make profits on their cues, particularly if they are able to acquire new cues from a big name cue maker.

Lol at the irony.

Chris and I have never spoken on this topic but I also use the same method of maintaining a cue inventory: Excel with the criteria mentioned above. The only deviation is that I store my cues in 4x8 and 6x6 O'Neil cases in addition to 12x24's.

That is just too funny.

dom_poppa,
thanks for the offer, i have a Excel already in use, was just wondering if there was an actual software package out there.
i have seem a few inventory packages out there that could possible work. i dont have a problem with my excel sheet was just hoping maybe there was a software package out there.

was looking for something that would store pictures associated with the cues possible. more of a database type approach.
something more user friendly and searchable

What you seek is being asked in the wrong way.

You don't want Cue Collecting Software.
You want inventory software for the purpose of documenting your cue collection.

IMO, the best way to do this is with Excel and full size photo files in individual folders on an external hard drive.

If you are not computer savvy, then you need to get with the times :p

BTW, if you want to search for cues, add keywords to separate folders.

well i suppose you are sort of correct in wanting inventory software, that would work
i am computer savy, that is not the issue. I am a network administrator.
was just looking for something out there before i think about making my own.
i do have excel sheets setup, stored on external drive, cloud and hard copies.

thanks for the input, will look at an inventory solution for now, may just end up making somethng this winter when i have some down time and stuck in the house
