Cue Design Programs

I was wondering if anyone out there had heard of/knows of any computer programs to desgn your own cue prior to having it built. I think it would be a super idea to be able to fully show what you want your cue to look like prior to having it built wrongly. I wish I was still into programming and had taken enough C++ to do it myself. I designed this jump cue resembling my playing cue by switching back and forth between MSPaint and MGI Photosuite. I found some actual pictures of the woods and rings off of some cue online and chopped them together. The program would have to have all known woods, wraps, be able to customize rings, rotate 360degrees and spin, manipulate number of points, heights, thickness of veneers, colors, to make any and place inlay designs that mirror left/right, zoom in/out, etc etc. Sounds like a great idea. What other idea do you think should be included in that program if it is not available? i am sure there is an easier way to do it with Photoshop or another good graphics program. If anyone takes on this idea, I expect a full edition copy for free. :)

I use Solidworks to design cues. I know one major cuemaker who also uses it and a custom cuemaker who is learning to use it. I actually do my designs by modeling each individual part and then creating an assembly of all the individual parts. I use the same techniques to create the parts in the model as the cuemaker does in his shop. You can do it easier by wrapping a decal around the shape of a cue but I like making things the way they are really made. I use an Solidworks add-in called Photoworks to render high quality images.

UWPG1 - A friend that I met here at AZB developed a computer image of what I wanted my next custom cue to look like. I described it to him and he drew it up. Here it is...

The only thing that it lacks is the glossy-ness associated with a lacquer finish.

BTW, I never had this cue made. My cuemaker essentially talked me out of it due to the brass joint.

I have a different cue on order.

How much did all of your software cost you metal5d? I doubt I will spring for it, but I was just curious.

Looks like an Ariel Carmelli.

It was based off of a Lambros that caught my eye.

The woods that I had in mind were Gabon Ebony forearm and butt, either red amboyna burl or bloodwood for the red points and either blonde amboyna burl or curly maple for the short points. The grip area was to be Thuya burl. The rings were going to be bloodwood or bloodstone surrounded by brass and set in black phenolic. And the joint and outine of the red points would have been brass.

Solidwork is not cheap. I think its several thousand dollars. It is a very powerful tool. You can use other CAD programs that are less expensive to get similar results. I will try to post some pictures sometime.

Yeah that is what I figured when I checked out the website. Looks like an international selling CAD tool. Now where did I put that C++ book...
