Cue for Christmas

Hey all,

I want to buy my boyfriend a cue for a Christmas present. He plays in tournaments every week and borrows his teammate's cue. I want to get him a nice one but when looking at websites, I realized I know nothing about this stuff and do not have access to his teammates to ask them what I should get.

I am a student who works part-time so keep that in mind while pitching cues at me that might be out of my budget (and since I don't know how much they generally cost I don't know what I will or will not pay)

For a decent cue in that price range I would recommend either a Joss 101 or one of the Players Technology cues.

gr. Dave

No I do not know what type he borrows. Like I said before I do not have access to his teammates to ask nor do I know anything about pool cues to have known what kind they are.

I do however know it is a two-piece cue. That's about it.

Mmmm.....cues are a very personal thing. It's going to be hard to narrow down a cue if you don't know what he likes. Every brand of cue may hit and feel a little different. Since he plays in tournaments every week we could assume he is a competent player and may in fact have a preference for a particular type of hit. Best solution? Gift certificate to be safe in my opinion. May seem like a not so personal gift coming from his girlfriend, but if he is a real pool player he'll appreciate the fact that he is able to pick out his own cue rather than play with one he doesn't particularly like because it's from his girl.

Does he borrow the same cue from the same teammate every time or does he borrow from a variety of people?

Same teammate each time. There's another tournament coming up, so I am going to talk to the one who he usually borrows from. Thanks for the advice that you all have offered.

Contact your boyfriends teammate on the sly and then let the forums know what info you got. Specs like weight, cuemaker, type of tip, type of wrap that sort of thing. In general folks love to help each other and I bet his teammate would as well. Should make the experience a memorable one for all of you.

Agreed. This would be the best way to start. But 200 should go pretty far buying a nice cue to start with
