Cue for the car

Hello everyone I'm new to this forum but have been reading it for months. Really like it.

Normally I use Pechauer and Viking cues but I wanted to ask if there are cues made that would be ok to leave in the car?
My other cues are too expensive (for me at least) to leave in the car.
I live in Texas.
I'm ok with price up to 150 bucks.
It would be a play cue only.

I've read some things about Cuetec and Scorpion and their fiberglass layered shafts but when I went to the store to try them out the butt felt quite narrow and I didn't like the hit I got, nor the feel of the shaft.

I suppose "what do you expect for 100 bucks" is in order, but if there is a cue that can stand staying in the car and won't warp please let me know.

Are Cuetec and Scorpion the only two who do this?

I would not leave any cue in the car. For one, it can be an expensive ordeal for yourself. What if a thief knew you had a cue in your personal vehicle and decided to break a window or jimmy your trunk to get it? He does not know that the cue is only worth a hundred, but, tears up way more than that in repair bills.

The heat will also destroy any cue over time. You might as well put a hundred dollar bill on the roof of your car and drive down the road. That would be the end result over time.

I think you would be better off taking the money and use it as a down payment for a nice cue or case.
 
They probably would work ok. Find a trunk cue at a pawn shop or you can get a used bar cue and have a repair man put a joint in it for you.

I use an old Dufferin bar cue in a cheap case. I usually know when I am going to a bar with tables so will take a bar beater with me but its nice to have one in there for those occasions when you end up in a place unexpectedly and they have crap bar wood on the wall.

I am a great proponnent for the Car Cue. make it a el cheapo but try to get the shaft on the same taper you use for your playing cue. Here is where a decent case will help out but more important....properly cured wood.....I try to park in the shade too....if you can park in the shade....and your shaft is good material cured out good......you probably wont have any problems....Ive warped an inferior made shaft....green as a gourd on a really cheap cue..... but I have a good cue in a leather case and Ive had 0 problems....because of where I live and where I work and where I play I had to have the Car Cue......I would never put a cue in the car if I knew I was going to regret it........butts can warp....then youre screwed......so make it something you know youll be keeping the rest of your life....hope for the best....

Like others have said, I believe the best option is just something cheap (therefore, disposable). I use a McDermott that hits just fine, with a decent tip, that I picked up for less than $100 bucks. No problems as of yet over a few years, but if something does go awry, I will just dispose, rinse and repeat. Good luck.

Jim Baxter's barn sneakies can be used for such a purpose. I will also recommend a regular dufferin sneaky.

Nevertheless, it is still unadvisable to put your cues in the trunk of the car for various reasons I'm sure you know.

I bought a vintage full splice Adam from a friend who had kept it in his car for 15 years. It was 95% straight, if that makes sense. I added a laminated LD shaft (OB-1) and a great car cue was born. Over the years I had the wrap replaced by Steve Lomax and the butt sleeve redone at the SBE.

About a year ago it was stolen so I'm trying to replace it because I refuse to subject my good cues to the extreme temp swings of an enclosed car.

I purchased a Tiger Pro-X partial shaft from Crown City Cory and Bob Frey is matching it to this Adam;

You say you like Viking, which means you're used to the hit and taper. I would buy the cheapest Viking you can find (new or used), put a good tip on it, and expect that it may warp over time. Treat it as a disposable cue, if you will.

IMO that beats buying a fiberglass cue that you don't like. What's the point of bringing your own cue if you don't like the way it plays?

My "leave in the car cue" is a Dale Perry I got off of ebay. I hardly ever shoot with it and just have it there in case I get somewhere and don't have my cues with me. I could care less if it gets damaged or not, if it does, I'll repair it or refinish it myself but so far it has been in the trunk of my car for about 4 years now and is still straight as the day I got it, and I live in HOT ass Georgia. Total cost was $123.00
 
You can leave any cue, anytime, in a car. Just don't blame me, come the middle of summer, when it takes on the appearance of a pretzel. :smile:
 
Leaving cues in the truck is not a good thing, I agree. But that is the purpose of a trunk cue. I mean, if you can leave a Monkey in the truck (Trunk Monkeys) then its ok to do that to a cheap cue.

I have maintained that if you get a good ole bar cue that has seen its days and hasn't warped, then its a good candidate for the trunk.

I live in a Province where we go from one extreme to the other.

50 plus below in the winter to close to the 100s in the summer.

Winter time, use a cheap foam padded case and even wrap it in an old blanket.

Summer, well, can't do much about that one.

Thats why I take a nice but cheap bar cue with me to the bars. I'm not going to sweat it if some bone head knocks it to the floor or I share it with someone for a few games.

You take a good ole Duff bar cue, put a joint in it, leave it in the truck 365 days of the year and I bet you have a great chance of nothing happening to it.
