Cue hand

I need some opinions here people of AZ land. Lately I have been testing a few different cue hand grips.

My normal grip is weird actually....I hold the cue very lightly in my finger tips leveraging on my thumb and ring finger and first finger. It has worked to this point, BUT.....to get to another level, it has become a weakness from a slight instability/inconsistently. This grip also has my wrist turned and the cue out of alignment, and I have just adapted a way to use it....til now.

1. I have been trying a "snooker" full hand grip. IT feels WAY awkward, but is affective tho I"m having issues getting past the new feeling. The good thing is it helps get my elbow vertically aligned from a layed off position towards my back.

2. Next I toyed with the above grip and dropping the pinky. This was better feeling, but I would get the bad habit of snapping my grip closed at contact and getting ALL kinds of effortless zip on whitey tho outta control at times.

So, any of you all testing out grips?......got anything new to try?

thanx,

G.

Hi Gerry

I would like to help. Until I see your entire stroke motion it would be difficult to give any advice. Can you do a short video?.....SPF=randyg

Here's the only link I have of me playing. It's the first couple of racks in a 92ball run. I hope you can see what you are looking for? I guess it sounds silly to want to make big changes to my game if I can play at this level?, but I'm kinda stalled out! :)

thanks for your help,

Try the grip I've been using for the past several months.
Place both hands flat on the table and cross your thumbs to where they form a vee. This will be you new bridge.
Jam the butt of the cue in between the big and second toes of you right foot (the other foot if you are a lefty). You will have to remove your shoe and sock, of course, unless you sre wearing sandals.
Although playing pool in this position may seem awkward at first, give it some time and you'll be pocketing balls with the best of them before you know it.
An added benefit of this new position is that using a crutch becomes totally unnecessary.
I hope I have been of some assistance.

Hi Gerry

My God man, why would you want to change anything? I watch that entire video. You are dead accurate. You made a huge cueing error at 3:16 and got by with it.

I see a wonderful little poke stroke that works great for you.

Other than that I couldn’t see too much....SPF=randyg

Thanks for the ind words Randy, Maybe I'm looking for something that's not there? I'm always trying to improve, but silly as it sounds, any miss to me is inexcusable. I'm WAY too hard on myself I know.

Thanks for your time!

And that is precisely why I posted the ridiculous reply that I did. Full spead ahead.

I get it now tramp...at the time it sounded weird, but I guess I need a kick in the head now and then!:sorry:

I need help to Gerry from a smart local AZ'er, me and my friend Red are coming to SBE for the first time and have not booked a room yet and we would like recomendations for a close safe room for under a hundred a night. Do you have any suggestions and should we be worried about parking the car near the expo site ( I might have seen to much Parking Wars on the tube)-- haha-- Thanks for any help anyone--Leonard

Randy, don't you call this "Paralysis by Analysis"!!! Also, Gerry, didn't you once tell me you had a grip similar to Jimmy Matz!!! Why would you change anything!!!

yes I copied a few things from players like Jimmy, Andy Toth, and Pineapple. Recently I have hit a wall and I am trying to find issues to fix to play more consistent. It would be easy to say this is good enough, but I'm not satisfied with that I guess. Having a somewhat unorthodox style, I compare it to the greats, see whats different, and try to emulate them. It might come to doing nothing, but I'm looking.

you guys wont ever believe this but i knew a guy when i was in college that played about 7sp which is not that impressive, what was impressive was how he held the cue.

Instead of his palm facing the body on his grip hand it faced away from him....craziest stroke i ever saw but it worked for him...how i don't know.

weirdness,
