Cue I.D. help? Adam, Rambow?

This is my friends old playing cue and he has no idea what it is. My thought was it was an Adam but the one (R/A-7W Rambow Linen) I was thinking of looks slightly different.
Did Adam use the exact same veneers on each cue of that model? That's one of the differences I see. I suppose it's possible that part of the but broke off over the years and that's why this seems a little short.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Johnny

Yes. it looks like a very early Adam - that's the joint screw they used and the veneer colors are common. The buttcap probably cracked and was removed. What is the handle length? Under 28" and that would explain it.

Thanks Chris. If you hadn't chimed in on this one I was going to ask you directly. I'm waiting on the measurement but I'm sure it's under 28".

Chris I agree with you completely, I also think this cue is a Rambow style Adam cue. The fact that the cue is made of Rosewood, the Pin design which to my knowledge Rambow never used, and the veneer pattern on the bottom of the butt just above the bumper this cue screems 1st Catalog Adam. I also agree that the butt cap must have been broken and some one just put a bumper on the bottom of the cue top stop further damage.

Good catch Chris.

That's why it looks familiar to me! I knew someone years ago who had an actual Rambow that was similar, the pearl dots were different and I don't think there were any in the butt sleeve. I've been trying to remember and it just hit me!

I never intended to imply that this might be a Herman Rambow cue. I wrote Adam, Rambow because that's the cue that I thought it was.

I saw it again and although I didn't get a chance to measure it, it's easily less than 28 inches. More like 26".

Thanks,
Johnny
