Cue ID - hex pin

Hi All,

I was in a pawn shop yesterday and found a nice cue that I need help identifying. It was basically plain with ringwork and a short buttcap. The only real prominent feature was that the radial type pin was hexagonal on the last 1/2 inch or so. Anyone have any clues? The bumper is also almost recessed like some Hoppe conversions I've seen. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Steve

Ernie Martinez has Octagon (8) cuts on the pin. But every cue that I know of also has Octagon cuts in the butt cap as well. You might post a picture.

Thanks Salamander! I thought it might be an Ernie, but didn't he always put his trademark on his cues? Nothing on this one... I even thought maybe a Showcase (while Ernie was there), but there's no SC either. I've never seen an Ernie in person. What kind of hexagonal marks are in the buttcap? Unfortunately, it's still at the pawn shop or I'd put some pics up...

Steve,

If it is an Ernie, then you better snap it up before someone else grabs it. Ernie did not put the octagon cuts in the butt and pin until way after being at Showcase. What would concern me about your cue is that the butt should have the octagon cuts as well? As to a signature....Ernie did not sign his cues, but it should have the M "inlay" at the butt for all cues made after he was at Showcase. Showcase cues have an S somewhere....many times on the pin. There is nothing that leads me to believe that you have a Showcase.

I'll try and attach photos of my Ernie for comparison. The octagonol's in the butt are beveled at an angle, just like the pin.

Regards,

Doug

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the pictures! The one I'm looking at has a round bumper, but it is inset like the one in your pics. Also, the pin on the one I'm looking at is not as pointed. It is flat on the face. Also, no M marking. I might have to go back and buy it... I think I can get it for a decent price. If I do, I'll get you some pictures! Thanks for all your help, Doug!

Regards,

Steve
