You may be on to it there.
I do have some older catalogs and brochures on my hard drive but what I came across was the same one you posted. That was the closest match. And although I have not matched the image I seem to remember weight bolts like that in Gandy cues.
Hard to tell some of those old cues apart sometimes since they made some almost identical models.
Edit: That's a darn nice piece of birdeseye. If that sucker is straight then a little clean up and a good shaft could make a real nice player. Alternatively a sort of update/conversion job could be done to make it a player. Maybe a big pin with a phenolic joint kind of deal and perhaps something more modern looking in the butt cap department. (Yes I like steel joints but that isn't the trend these days.)
When I see these old ones I often think the best thing that can be done is to keep them in play, even if that means updating the specs. As long as they aren't really valuable or collectible I think it's a great way to keep old cues going. I am surprised we don't see more of that going on. With as much as some proper blanks cost, those old cues with nice wood are already well aged etc....I am surprised more aren't used as blanks.

I didn't realize it had the original shaft. That's really cool. Yeah, with proper clean-up etc that could make somebody a great player that carries a lot of nostalgia. I agree, since it's in such good shape and has a straight original shaft then it shouldn't be "messed" with.
As far as ID, I am with you. It's probably as far as I can take it too.
Those cues can be so close...even others can be close to them. I have a fairly old cue I thought was a Viking that may turn out to actually be a Cervantes cue. Wouldn't that be cool!? I'm still quietly working on properly identifying it.

I have already had pics of it up saying it was a Viking and nobody questioned that. It was certain specific things that caused me to begin to question that actually. I was thinking of pulling the wrap off it since it isn't the original. It looks like it might be a full splice.
