Cue Identification Advice

Hello everyone. I have a cue that I have had for a while now and its driving me nuts. I have tried to remove the butt bumper with allen wrenches and philips head and regular screwdrivers but nothing seems to catch down in there. When you see the pic you will understand I hope. Its like a bottomless pit, however, when I do stick something down there, it does hit something, but cannot catch on it. Any ideas on how I would go about removing this rubber without tearing up the cue?


Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Felix, by the pictures you supplied the cue is a Adam or a Helmstetter. Most likely at some point one of the cues owners lost the attachment screw for the bumper and glued it in. that is why the hole appears to be so deep, but you hit something solid when you go deep enough. Go down the center of the hole and pry the bumper free, or just cut it out with an exacto knife. The bumper pictured is easy to get, then you will find out which weight bolt is in the cue so you can get a screw and bumper to put back together correctly. I know of no other way to do it.

Any way to positively identify it once the bumper is off? Or should I say is it worth the trouble to see if it can be identified that way?

Got the bumper off. Took some serious prying and pliers. It was not glued in, it was very long, bout an inch long. Under is a large flat-head screw with a hole in the middle of it. I tried to unscrew it and broke a cheap screwdriver. :(

Felix, take a picture of the entire cue. It looks like a weight bolt that was used by either Adam or the National cue company. Many of these weight bolts were used to not only wieght the cue, but also to hold the Butt Cap on. If this is one of those cues, the weight bolt may have been glued in, so it will have to heated. Generally I use a sodering iron on high to melt the glue, I put the Iron in the center of the weight bolt.

Post a photo of the entire cue, and the joint including the pin, and the forearm.
 
old palmers from the pm or pb line with the same buttsleeve. my firends first cue was that exact cue but with different collars. pm and pb lines were made by r.h.
 
I have seen these before i used a flat piece of steel and ground it down to fit these oversized heads. You can grind the piece of steel to fit the slot. I would put the steel on a vice and hold the cue in my hands and try to remove the bolt. Hope this helps.

You may need to heat it up. Take a sodering iron and touch it to the middle for 10-15 mins maybe longer

Felix, I would suspect the cue is a National. The cues pin being Brass, with a round tip, the weight bolt, and the overall design make me say the above. However, Felix I could certainly be wrong.;)

hahah. I hear ya. Well, I hate to say that we may never know. Terrible! I bought this cue from Spanky a few years ago and he told me it was a Meucci. Silly me. I was young once. lol...

Well, its a really good cue despite its plain-ness. Its very solid, perfectly straight, and hits great. Its heavy though! Probably 21+ Its a hammer.

Well also add that if it is a National Cue, and I think it is, consider how many Famous cue makers worked at National. Bob Meucci, Richard Helmstetter, Rico Cervanties, Paul Huebler and many others. All I can say is the cue has history. I would check the finish for finger prints, hell you may be able to prove who made it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D :D

Hey.. I even went as far as taking off the wrap. It wasn't original anyway, but now the point is I need to get it re-wrapped. Any advice on who I should get it done by? I am thinking a nice black leather?
