Cue Identification HELP Please

the more I look, the more I guess Tillis.

The date I don't understand, maybe a refinish date. I don't think Rocky made cues after the mid 80's, I heard he had a stroke around then.

But the simple butt work, Six simple, short, often non-veneered points, points with what looks like an 8-dash joint ring (his stuff often didn't "match") and of course the 18 thread pin.

Another question, that would lend only circumstantial evidence, but what does the but weigh? (Since you don't have shafts).

I've NEVER seen a light Tillis. I don't think I've EVER seen one under about 20 ounces, which would make the but roughly 15+. Of course weights would vary slightly with finish and wrap.

If it feels solid, I'd contact someone have shafts built, and the thing refinished. It's not worth a mint like it is, but should make a solid player with a neat "mystery history".

Harry Richards in Daytona is probably who I would contact. Yes, he's a buddy of mine, but he's also in direct "lineage" from Rocky, as he used to work with Wayne Gunn early on, and Wayne worked with Tilllis before that, or so I heard.

He also is used to doing those piloted shafts, as that was his standard for a long time.

Harry has a Tillis in his shop I have been trying to get for years. Kinda rough, but it's still simple and solid.

Let us know what you decide.

Butt weight alone is approximately 16oz my scale shows slightly heavier, but I think may scale could be off by .2

The BJ could just be a cuemakers way of making notes, perhaps he was going to make a Break Jump cue out of that piece of wood.

Definitely a cue made before the popularity of jump/break cues, to me.

Here are more pics of the mystery cue. C'mon guys. We've got some really smart people here. What kind of cue is this?

A friend of mine had a Rocky Tillis (before it was stolen), work is very, very similiar. As for as the markings on the butt, I have known of many cue mechanics who put their names or ints. under the wrap when they applied a new one , usually with a date.
