Cue Identification...Schuler?

Ok, I bought this cue on e-bay because I liked the looks of it and I felt like it might be something special. I have since learned that it has a unique joint only made by Schuler. I also have learned that he signed every cue he made. This cue does not have any identifying marks or signatures. It has two floating points and the heart/club/spade inlays below the wrap which is stacked leather with clear over it?? I am not sure what material the inlays are made of. I do not think they are ivory but I have been wrong about that in the past. Any help on this one is greatly appreciated!

not a schular

I agree. A Schuler has a very thin ALUMINUM walled sleeve, at the joint (butt). It also has wood showing at the butt joint , where the bushing from the shaft goes into the joint. Not solid steel. The bushing protruding from the shaft should be ALUMINUM. If you take the rubber bumper off you will see a very different thing holding the bumper in place. The screw goes into through a washer & a red piece of rubber. If the screw goes into a threaded hole in the butt....it is definitly not a Schuler...JER

Nope, not a Schuler. Schuler's shaft insert is typically aluminum, but I do have one made of brass. It's 0.440" diameter and protrudes about 0.32". The smooth exterior of the insert will mate with the butt side of the joint with an interference fit. The bumper uses compressed O-rings to hold it in place. Mine (4 of them) don't have any red parts in the bumper. The joint screw is a hollow brass 5/16-14TPI screw. There is quite a bit of wood to wood contact. The joint collar on the shaft is also thinner on a Schuler. Typically, Schuler cues don't have any decorative rings at the joint except on the insanely expensive ones. I have one, which probably retailed close to $2,ooo when new, that doesn't have any decorative rings at the joint. Schuler cues also had no finish over the wrap. Ray signed most of his cues but not all of them. Early on, his lower end cues were unsigned but that changed in the early to mid '90s. If Schuler made your cue, it is fancy enough to be signed, regardless of age.

Cue ID

Thank you everyone for the help. Much apprecitated! Bryan Trim from Schuler confirmed that it is not a Schuler, but he suspects Jerry Powers may have made it. E-mails are sent! I will keep you posted. Thanks again!

Hi,

Ray's joint evolved over the years until he perfected it. Can you post better pics of the pin and shaft mechanics.

Ok here are some better pics of the joint and shaft. Make that one pic because I am unable to upload the others....too big I guess. The floating points remind me of Olivier also, but did he ever construct a cue with this type of joint? Thank you again to everyone who has posted, all opinions are appreciated.
