Cue import tax?? What is this?

I recently bought a Mezz Carom Cue from Kozoom. It was shipped to me from France. I received the cue last week. Now I get an email from this outfit IBC Customs Brokerage, Inc. demanding "payment of duties and taxes" regarding my recent import of "billiards accessories".

Anyone ever heard of this? I am inclined not to pay. I never agreed to pay it in the first place.

You are responsible for any import duties on products you buy and have shipped to you from out of country depending on where the goods were manufactured. You won't always get noticed, but if you do you'll have to pay. That being said, from what I can see the US doesn't charge duty on billiards cue, balls, or accessories. The tariff schedule I looked at listed 0%, so not sure what they're trying to charge you.

$42.50 for some made up nonsense. There was nothing mentioned in either the purchase or shipping process. I did not agree to pay. This is out of the blue.

I wouldn't sweat it until a couple of guys in black suits and sunglasses show up at your front door. Seriously, those fees(if real) should be mentioned up front. Pretty chicken-s^*t in my book. Every country in Europe is going broke so i guess this their way of paying some bills.

But it'll cost you more later...

I can order Mezz wholesale as well as almost all others if you need something.

Mr.Lister is a A+++++ seller/buyer. I've bought from and sold to Bill and all details were spot on. If he can score you a carom cue i'd go for it. France? Seriously? Buy American but hey that's just me.

First, this case seems weird because there shouldn't be a duty from what I see.

But, generally, it's your responsibility to know your countries import duties and what you'll owe, can't expect the seller to know them or figure them out for you. In this case you are importing a cue by having someone ship it to you and it's your country imposing the duty, so not the sellers responsibility I'm afraid.

I still think this one sounds fishy though. And I've paid my share of import duties in overseas purchases (non pool related stuff).

If it wasn't on the in tial invoice and what I agreed to I would promptly tell whomever to quickly GO F___ Themselves and let me know how it turned out. I wouldn't pay a cent more, An American cent or otherwise and if it is a big deal to them just give your lawyers # and leave it at that. If it was an AZ'er that lined the deal up, I might apologize and recommend that they get better at what they do and still not give a cent more.

They must have watched customs shipments and sent you an email. Straight up scam. If you have the cue in your hands, just ignore it.

I've received customs bills well after receiving parcels from Fedex and they've been legitimate.
I'd call them to verify the bill and get it taken care of, because the last thing you want it is for it to get taken to a collection agency, which is just a massive headache.
You may be able to negotiate your way out of the advancement fee, but you are responsible for the duty and tax because they have already paid it on your behalf.

Did the kazoom folks have any input?

You could always return it, ha know?

Tiger products has some nice looking firewood.

Importing cues

If the cues value is more then 250.00 and if the sender declared full value of the cue and insured the cue for full value and its over 250.00 you can be charged import taxes.

Customs will tell you if you have to pay import tax or not.
And I am sure customs got a IRS agent right there.

Good luck.
