Cue Insurance

Has anyone else insured their cue. I play mainly in a bar so I decided to have my cues insured. It wouldn't replace the cue but it would lesson the sting.

Insurance

I am borderline on my homeowner policy. Any more cues and I will need to insure them with a special policy or "rider." I have never thought to insure them outside of the house but will admit I usually only take one nice cue out at a time when I do.

The best way to do it generally is on a rider under your home insurance or renters policy. You want them covered for all risk, this will cover them if they get broken or stolen. I have had mine covered with Auto-Owners Insurance with what they call AGREED VALUE. If you have this and a cue gets stolen you just have to show proof of value, via printing a page from a website with the value for replacement or a written estimate from a dealer or cue maker. I sold insurance for forty years so I know a little something about it. Good Luck.

It cost me $144.00 a year to insure my John Bender for $1500.00 and my Hercek for $7000.00. I maybe should of gone higher on the Hercek but at least if the worst happens I am not up the creek.

I only had one experience with homeowners insurance and a stolen cue and it was a war to get paid. I actually had to have Richard Black contact my insurance co, to verify the existence of the cue and it's value that they didn't really believe. I still only ended up with like half of the value. They don't like to pay off on a speculated value as a collectable. Today I have no interest in playing with high end cues. I don't want to spend the night baby-sitting a cue or a fancy case for that matter. I like a decent playing non de-script cue that doesn't attract any interest or attention. My collectables are in a safe.

My brother is my agent, and he told me pretty much the same thing.
I cant remember the exact cost, but it was cheap, especially when you consider the cost of replacement...but, How do you replace a 30 year old cue....?

I went though this with a collection of coins...heartbreaking

that's why I got a rider on my home owners. it was easy. Yrs ago when I had my Gus I forgot it in the bar more than once, fortunately everyone knew me and it was all ways there. I didn't have Joel build me the cue of my dreams not to play it.

I have a "Personal Articles" policy with State Farm, essentially a rider which I have had on my musical instruments for 20 years. They have made a fortune and I have yet to make a claim, but all items are covered for replacement value.

I use collect insure...it insures the cues out of the home too. It's cheap, and they are really relaxed to deal with...like 100 for 10k annually
