Cue joint seems off center

They likely turn the joint and shaft as a unit at finishing. That process doesn't ensure the pin is centered because it's not being spun on center.

McDermotts are made this way as most cheap imports.

McDermott cues are not made like that. The shafts are fitted to the finished butts before spraying the cue.
 
It makes no difference in how the cue plays.

However it is a bit irritating

And they are turned together

I used to sell them. And they are crap.
They may be lightly sanded to get a perfect blend but not what you describe. I know what you are talking about. Some cheap cues I could not even make a shaft for the screws were so off center.
