To get a cue at 60", would it be as simple as getting a 31" shaft? Would it affect the playablity of the cue?

I have some longer shafts,

do they affect playability? The shaft (length, taper, and the ridgidity of the wood), ferrule, and tip account for much of a cues playability so yes it does. It may be better with a longer shaft, that depends on your personal preference. I have a 31 inch shaft for one of my cues, and I have liked it, but I recently went back to playing with a cue only a half inch longer than the normal 58" and I must say it is my favorite . I am just over 6'1" tall with long arms. You may find your cue case will not close with a shaft that long. Some cases are made shorter.

I have tried it both ways and like the Butt and shaft both at 30". I seemed to lose "feel" with the 31" shaft. I also use a 30" shaft on a 29" butt and like that also.

If the cue is constructed so that the extra length is effectively all in shaft end, (usually the case when an extra long shaft is made for a 29" butt) it might not feel as nice as a cue constructed to put the extra lenth on the butt end.
A larger joint diameter is one of the best ways to accomplish this. A thicker taper can also help for extra-length shafts.

Hagan Cue

The strangest one I had was a Hagan cue. The shafts were about 1-2" longer than the butt.

Awesome cue.

Sold it tooo cheap.

So it goes.

Did you really have to give away that secret? :D
A friend of mine who is a very good pool and 3-cushion player ( a collector of over $150K of cues ) has two Hagans with funny looking joint collars and ferrules. He and Colliding Spheres instructor claim Hagan had the lowest cueball squirt of all the custom cues they tested at the old world-famous Best Billiards.
Must be the Bondo at the bottom of the points under the wrap. ;)
I told you you're gonna regret it someday.:)

Well, in the early nineties I had 2 Hagan cues each with 2 shafts, buckhorn ferrules and joints and I sold both, one of them for 40.00 because they squirted so badly they were almost unplayable. Straight pool could be played as you shot fairly easy with little English, nine-ball and eight-ball was just giving my money away as if you used much English while shooting harder you might completely miss hitting the object ball. Hagan was an engineer for one of the auto makers north of Cincinnati and made cues as a hobby. He Later moved out west to AZ I believe. He has a good following of his cues in this area but I'm not one of them.
